Has anyone ever used one of these? It looks like it might have been a first generation or primate of the Harmony. Would love to know more about this machine.

I thought so too. There is one on EBAY for 188+ as a starting point. Bestbuy used to have one of these on their sales floor. But I guess they abandoned it with the GE Line. It never occurred to me till I saw it today that it looks a lot like the Harmony.

I have seen one of these in the stores also. The adjator doesn't look like it will do to much because the fins seen very small. It would be interesting what type of turnover it has?

It bears no similarity to the LG toploaders we have in our stores. The drum is also very similar to the Samsung washers on our market.
Only LG and Samsung have low profile impellers in the washing machines they sell here. I wonder why they couldnt put a proper agitator in the ones they manufacture for Australia? A lot of people dont like impellers.
You would find that as this is an impeller machine, the agitator would work well with is small fins as the agitator will probably have a full 360 degree stroke or even more before reversing.
It should be quite a fun machine to watch. More drama than the old DAA that American washers all have.

Auto-Load sensing.
It claims to have automatic load size sensing. So it is most likely a direct drive machine.
I would be interested in seeing it run a load or two.

It wouldnt be direct drive, if it was it would be a lot more expensive as the direct drive (DCmotor) varients are usually deluxe versions.
It would have a simple clutch style transmission.
Gizmo would be able to give a great discription on how this style of machine works, but he hasnt posted for a while.

Load Sensing?
How could it do load sensing without being direct drive? Keep in mind this machine has a price point of about 560. Not too far off of the F&P mark. As I recall, F&P did market their Smart Drive machine under the GE Monogram nameplate for about three years.

I got one of these for a cousin moving into an apartment about a year ago. It is under the GE Spacemaker line, but not made by GE; LG produced. It does have auto load sense. When you start the washer it dry agitates to sense clothes resistance on the agitator and then selects the right water level. Very sophisticated for a portable. It agitates like a F&P washer. Longer strokes for heavier garments, and shorter strokes with pauses in between for more delicate items. I think it spins at about 750-800 rpms and has 2 manual clean lint filters that snap into the sides of the stainless steel tub. It also has detergent & softener dispensers ahead of the fill flume that flushes into the tub during fill times. Nice machine, but pricy,though I do like it better than the Whirlpool 22" compact on wheels.

Just came in from appliance "shopping" and the small Avanti portable top loader as an agitator that is a dead ringer for FP's.

As far as I can remember, it does not agitate with the lid up, but you can defeat it with a magnet on the left front corner. I do know that it does not spin at all with the lid up, even with the magnet. I think it has a double lid switch for spin.

I beleive it is a neutral drain and then pulses in spin to balance the load.
