GE Potscrubber 1200 Score

Ever since my grandmother tossed her (older model) Potscrubber out, I've always wanted to find one of these! I got this one for 12 bucks! I'm just sick of the modern dishwasher I have and its complete lack of grinder/cutter assembly. What should I replace or renew on this to give it its best lease on a long life? What were the common failure points?

Failure points On GE Multi-Orbit Wash Arm DWs

Start with a complete new style pump and motor, after this inlet valves are often a problem with any DW after 10 years or so.

 

The Drain plunger in the filter should be inspected and replaced if in bad condition, also the drain check valve in the plastic piece at the front of the DW where the drain hose connects.

Congratulations on your new machine!  I have a GE Potscrubber 1250.  Does the detergent dispenser work on yours?  I don’t know if it’s a common failure, but it’s not opening automatically on mine and I don’t know why.  Hope you enjoy your new toy!

Thank you for the advice! I will go through it after work today with a fine tooth comb! I haven't powered it on yet or connected it but I was told it was working flawlessly when removed. It was a curious case; the seller was only getting rid of it because the house was being renovated. She was older and said she washed all her dished by hand before they went in the machine and she never used the heat dry because she never trusted it? Odd. I love the color panels in it, I changed it to black but it was originally almond. The other colors were white and mustard yellow (ick!).

I did consider upgrading the pump and motor assembly but will it function as well or have near the reliability of the original GE motor? Could I just clean the motor and lubricate the bearings? I did notice that the "cutter blade" on my machine is just a wire spring that spins around but the upgraded assembly looks like an actual blade.

Beautiful machine! I’ve always loved 1200s. When I rebuilt my Potscrubber III I put the newer PCS motor in it as the old one was leaking. The performance is just as good as before and the newer unit is quieter. It’s very easy to change out. I would recommend putting the newer style sump on it as well.

Thank you for the advice, ill get a new pump and motor assembly ordered! I started digging into it tonight and I'll also be ordering a new inlet valve since the current one is full of junk. Everything else looks pretty good. The plunger underneath the filter is intact and the spring is still shiny. There's also a flapper check valve which seems ok to.
