Howdy!

A few days ago, the apartment complex that my wife and I reside in, replaced our Kenmore 417 stackable washer and dryer set (the washer died after 18 years in a blaze of glory), with a GE Spacemaker set. So far, we love the washer, and deplore the dryer - but that's another story for another day.

Whilst Mrs. Volvoman was reading the owner's guide to the new washer, she came across a sentence that confused her, regarding the "deep fill" cycle:

"The Deep Fill feature is recommended for special case use only; not for typical use".

We are not sure why this is. As it is a typical HE washer, it uses very little water. When we used the "deep fill" setting, it filled the tub to what we've come to expect with older top loaders. We actually really enjoy the deep fill feature.

Since GE is stating that it is for special case use only, does this mean that constant use will destroy the machine? Or is this GE's way of trying to tell consumers that they will waste water if they use this feature?

Anything else we should look out for with this washer? As these are now being installed in all the apartments in this complex when someone moves out, we really don't have a choice with what we get.

Thanks in advance!

DeepFill

Theoretically, yes that will cause more strain.

Drain pump will have to run longer.
Suspension is weighed down more.
Fill valve will have to activate longer.

But I don't think they wrote that with that in mind.

Really down to people just using it every single time without thinking.
DeepFill overrides any load sensing on many GEs and fills with the max amount no matter if you wash 1 shirt or a comforter.

Trying to tell people they wouldn't wash a single item on max water level either on an old machine.

Deep Fill Option On A New GE TL Washer

It will not hurt the machine one bit, GE is trying to encourage conservation which is a good thing for all of us.

It will probably clean a little better on lower water level options due to greater detergent concentration and more aggressive agitation however it may be a little harder on good clothing.
