Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

'Tis a Pity:

That that lovvvvvvely '52 (I think) has that pop-up deep-well burner in place of a second large one, and that the other has 3 small burners and only 1 large, too.

Ya gotta have two large burners. Especially if you want to fry chicken. One skillet for the dark meat, one for the light.

I do absolutely love the styling of the '52.

Thanks for the clairification..

The knobs have the 1959 look..just like my 59...I have to fashion a piece of glass or metal to replace the backsplash that is missing...I have lost so much @$X* behind the stove because it is missing!!

Jerry:

Your backsplash (referred to as a "backsplasher" in GE literature of the period) was originally ribbed glass. The ribs ran horizontally.

Pittsburgh is plenty big enough to have a glass company that could supply you with ribbed glass cut to size.

P.S., Jerry:

I really envy you that '59 Spacemaker. I know of a '57, but the owner is pretty likely to keep it.

The '59 has two advantages over the '57 - it has a windowed oven door, and it uses the standard automatic oven timer movement common to many, many brands and models, so it's easier to restore to full function.

Wait - three advantages. It also seems not to have the Automatic Calrod, which is lovely when it's working, but we all know that's not always the case. [this post was last edited: 10/25/2012-19:26]
