GE Washer At Home Depot

I saw an interesting GE washer at Home Depot this past Saturday. It had a very deep tub with a short agitator about 6" tall. Is this the HydroWave or something new?

I am curious - what is so bad about the Hydrowave? Performance? Build quality? Reliability?

It's the new HE Hydrowave, been around for a while now..

I bought one a while back and had my fun with it, I eventually gave it to a friend who desperately needed it. While I thought it was ok, she thinks it's absolutely fantastic. She says it is ten times what both her previous Maytag Neptune and Newton Drive Maytag were... Not sure I agree with that! lol

The one I saw had a white tub, and a regular agitator, but it was short. The control panel had only two knobs cycle setting and load size. Water temp was controlled by cycle setting.

OH MY!! It doesn't look like it does much for the towels. The sheets at least are moving through the water.

I wonder what it would do with a full load of jeans.

Jamie, did you add more water at any time to see how the turnover changed?

my local damaged freight store has two styles of late model
(Ca.2008)GEsne has a ribbed SS tub like the one above but
has a dual action agitator,while a lower end version had a
white porcelain tub and a 4-vane agitator with a very short
post.

That washer looked like it was beating those towels worse than a shredmore! It looked like it had little to no turnover.

The sheets looked like they may have been cleaned adequately, but overall I wouldn't have one.

I'm completely unimpressed. How do the towels get clean? Does the Cabrio work the same way? One of my used appliance haunts has one, and I've been thinking about it.

Unless a miracle happens and the up and down agitators that FRIGIDAIRE pioneered and never contracted out to anyone are reintroduced to the market,or,the top loading horizontal axis washers'are increased in capacity and introduced to the U.S, I have no interest in ANY top loading washers that are current.They waste water,tear up clothes,waste energy and pollute the environment moreso than front loaders.If people would just sit back and read their use and care guides and not be afraid to try different wash methods,I'm sure that they'd agree.Just yesterday,I took a 9'X12' area rug and successfully washed it in my Frigemore.Everyone thought I was crazy but ate crow once the heavy cycle ended.The suds were dark brown as thy cascaded up the glass window and the new Tide stain tablets are awesome! The second rinse water was crystal clear!I line dried it about 2 hours and laid it back down on my lani. No top loader would ever have been able to wash anything that bulky. Well,maybe a 1-18 would have, but no other.

Lousy turnover even with the "regular" agitator

Even with the "regular" agitator these machines seem to have lousy turnover (see link.) Perhaps if more water were allowed it would do better. That load may be too large as well.

Indeed the load in the Hydrowave shown in the film clip is too full-even the auger cannot circulate the clothes-After the machine is done bet those poor clothes will look like they went thru an Auger compactor-shredder than a washer.Looks like the clothes are taking quite a drubbing-take out half of them and the machine would do MUCH better!and yes with TL machines you need WATER besides the agitator to circulate the clothes.The water is the medium the clothes have to circulate in for cleaning or rinsing.

That GE was overfilled! I have the Hotpoint version (sitting right next to my Cabrio, which works worlds better than that GE with the impeller does) and it rolls the clothes over quite nicely. This is a large load on the large load setting(Could have used more water but I have to adjust the water fill valve, about half way I switch it over to slow to show the differnce because it looks like that other video was on slow not normal):

OMG, the noises that Cabrio makes! It's washing looks better than the GE, but all that noise, and it looks like the washers internals are taking a beating as you can see the washer bouncing around all over the place.
