I'm thinking about adding a GE washer to the collection. i have a GE sales book from 1990 and the washer is in there. I noticed that some of the members here have GE washers and their dated from the 80"s. The control panel is black with the chrome around it. On the left side there are two toggle switches 1 for water level and the other for wash and rinse temps. then the timer on the right. The couple wants $35.00 for it and said it runs well, they just upgraded. It is 100 miles south of here in Southren Vt. Just wanted to get some feedback. My question is what years did GE make these machines with the black and chrome, I noticed also that some have pushbuttons instead of toggle switches. Thanks, Mike

Hello jus wondering if there was anyway u could post a few pics of the washer and a few pics of the washer dryer section in the sales catalog. I collect the ge hotpoint appliance catalogs & don't think I've seen one from 1990. -thanks

something seems out of whack a bit....

mostly through the 80's were black and chrome, with multi colors for graphics....

around the end of the 80's into the 90's there were all black, with bright red lettering and graphics.....toggles were BOL and pushbuttons were for higher end units....not uncommon to see an all white version, usually the SpotScrubber model...

into the 90's they tilted the control panel, mostly monochromatic, either all white or all black....touch pad, huge knobs, or push buttons for options...

would like to see the unit, or brochures for what is shown for those time periods...

WWA5600

Was a basic model washer for GE for a loooonnnng time.  The letter that next follows that number will help pin down the year (serial number should give you month and year of manufacture).  My copies of the 1978 and 1979 catalog indicates the WWA5600V model, the 1982, 1983 and 1984 GE catalog indicates the WWA5600B model, 1985 features the WWA5600G.  The numbering system continues through the model years with progressive alphabetical numbering.  The newest catalog that I have is 1993, and it indicates the WWA5600R model.

This model always included 3 wash/rinse temp combinations, 3 water levels, filter flo system with single-speed activation/spin and normally 3 cycles.  In later years it also included a bleach dispenser.

I have some info

the catalog that I have is 1990, washer model number is WWA5600G, I have emailed the person that has the machine and ask them for the model and serial number. For people that want to see the machine it is on Vermont Craiglist and just type in washing machine for search, customer is asking $35.00, can't download the pics for some reason. Mike

My GE was definitely older, BTL basic model with plastic caps on the left which meant no temp or level control, I fixed the temp with a simple jumper wire and adjust the faucets. Backgard was goldish beige but exact same design. Timer had no color codes settings as there was one, fill and off. I swear if there was a coinbox on it, could be a laundromat model and had the smallest tub I ever saw. but it was a filter-flo. But it apparently is still running fine since my aunt bought it in 74 and gave it to me in late 70's.

that actually should be a two speed model......

the speeds are built into the timer/cycles.....

Regular cycle was normal speeds, PermPress was gentle....

I was given a machine like this, only single speed, heavy duty and durable, just a boring machine to me, was the same reason the guy who bought it gave it to me 2 months later....that was 1980...

but have come to note that these basic machines will run forever....

bumer

went to contact the seller this morning about picking up the machine and he has already sold it to someone else, didn't even get back to me when I told him I had to make arrangements to pick it up. oh well.

That sucks Mike!! I was afraid same would happen with me and my KA dishwasher. I'm still set to pick it up tomorrow.

I see the GE FF's from time to time so you'll probably find another. I was so lucky to find my set so that's why I snatched them up! haha
