General cancel GE Carry Cool - new Fridgedaire air conditoner

I bought a new Fridgeaire air conditioner, 6000 btu. We installed it and it is running. The first few things that I noticed are: wow, is this light, not heavy at all, the fan and compressor are so quiet set on high fan, quieter than a box fan.
GE- 1983 much louder, however; LOTS more cool air from that. The new one? It is doing ok and is cooling. I will keep you all posted on the outcome here. I am not throwing out the GE, I will try the oil trick on the fan and see what happens. Gary

Carry Cool

I bought one in the 70's when living in an upstairs apartment that faced the sun, PHEW. Now it starts but cycles the compressor on and off and does not create any cold air. I just put the old Frigidaire that weighs a ton in the bedroom window this afternoon, as we hit 92 for the first time in ages it seems and very humid. Door is closed and it is on max so I am hoping for some comfortable sleeping. Keeping fingers crossed.

I was supposed to take her today to the vets and they cancelled today. She has cried every time I leave the room and if they wont do it tomorrow, much as I am dreading it, I will find another. Hopefully she can come in the cool room and fall asleep. I hate the thought but it is time.

Be sure to let us know how the oil and wiggling do on the Carry-Cool. My mother has a new Haier window unit in her second bedroom, and it doesn't cool nearly as well as either of my old Carry-Cool units. Suprisingly, if you check the label on the Carry cools, they are rated nearly as high as modern units for effiency, thanks to the system GE used of a slinger on the fan throwing water over the external coils.

Find a old round grille Fedders or a Frederich, they are so cold they will make your teeth hurt to stand in front of them!

Tim, I know what you mean. I had to put my good friend, Fred to sleep in

I went to the vets this morning and they came right out to the car and it was over quickly. She is now resting peacefully in my back lot with a big granite bolder as her headstone. But there is a big void now that will take along time to fill after 13 years of constant companionship and love. She was a beautiful dog and it broke my heart seeing her suffer but she is suffering no more.

I know that it was a difficult ordeal to go through but she is in pain no longer. Take your time to think about getting another dog. All I did for 2 months was cry.

Thank you so much for the kind words. Yes, it is difficult and will be for a while. When I got up this morning it suddenly hit me that this would be the first of many mornings she wont be right there. Thankfully I have a wonderful bunch of neighbors that are my best friends and they have all rallied together to comfort me.

Don't know if all vets will come to the house for the final visit, but ours does. It didn't make it any easier, but I think the Worlds Best Dog went more comfortably.

Thank you everybody for your kind words and support. The vet hospital is only a couple miles away, so it wasnt far to go and they were very nice and supportive. I have her spot all lined with rocks now so I will always know just where she is peacefully resting. I do miss the wagging tail and her beautiful smile terribly.

Having my cat put to sleep was the hardest thing I ever had to do, but it was best for her, no more suffering.

Thanks everyone and what my neighbor did for me

My next door neighbor came over today, he wanted to keep me distracted. But to make a long story short. Their daughter is 16 now and grew up with Molly from the beginning. She immediately went to her room and cried herself to sleep knowing there would be no more sleep overs when she found out. Molly would always sit on my back porch waiting for her to get home to greet her every day. She took her allowance and told her mother she had to go to Lowes. Lowes? Yes, I want to plant nice perennials around where Molly is burried that will always be there. She came over later and wanted me to come with her and there it was. It was beautiful that a kid cared so much for a dog that was but wasnt really hers.

You have given her one last gift, one of peace, so she doesn't have to be in pain.

Is it LRA074AT7, 6500 BTU?
I have been in the market for a unit of that size, but was hesitant since my 12k btu Frigidaire is wicked loud. The 5.5k Frigidaire I want to replace is a dirt and mold factory. However there are lots of reviews on the Lowes website that are positive about this machine, and I think CR rated it well.

I picked up a year-old Friederich CP06F10 this weekend and its still early to give a full review. Seems to cool great, with excellent airflow, and quiet fan, but I have to fiddle with the installation because I have some vibration issues.

I'll give it some time but if it doesn't work out, it seems like the Frigidaire is worth a look.

I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your dog. It's a very heart wrenching ordeal.
It takes us a long time to get over the loss of our dogs with which the last one was December 2008. We still miss our Kurt.

Let me discuss in home euthanasia for a moment here.
While it may make no difference to the human involved whether or not it happens at home or at the vets office think about it for a moment. If you take the dog into the vet, they are usually frightened or nervous because they associate that place with shots & examinations. At home they are in their own surroundings surrounded by people other pets that they know and are usually pretty relaxed. Isn't this the way you'd want to go?

If you are worried about cost, the local pet crematorium has a vet that is trained in grief management that comes out to perform this service. He is a very nice guy. I met him when he picked up Kelley from the vets office. In home euthanasia is included in the cremation fee which is $160.00.

Also the euthanasia drug they use matters too. When we had our dog Skippy put down the vet just OD'ed him on a regular anesthesia drug. He flipped and flopped around the table for about 2 minutes before finally passing on. I told the vet that I though he was in pain, his response "Aw, don't worry about that it was only muscle contractions which is normal.". Well I now know that it wasn't normal and that poor Skippy went in a painful manner. Just like there are idiot human doctors there are also idiot vets too.

Our vet uses a drug called "Die Out" that is very gentle on the dog. Our vet used it on our Dalmatian Kelley. She just faded away slowly and looked just like she did when she was going to sleep. Very peaceful.

I just wanted to pass this information on to people who may not be aware of it.

And as for vets who cancel euthanasia appointments, well I think that is totally unprofessional. Most times people wait until the end and they have to find the strength to take their pets in for the last time. Cancelling your appointment just prolongs that agony. If they can't perform the service when scheduled they should refer you to another vet who can before you show up at their office. We recently had this happen to a friend of ours with their Chocolate lab. It was Friday morning and the appointment was made on Thursday. The vet canceled when they arrived Friday and rescheduled them for Monday. The dog died at home on Sunday.

If a vet did that to me they'd be history.
