Great looking GE FF -

" General Electric washer for sale; not new, definitely old school but still works fine. This is a 'programmed' model with 5 preset selections for speeds and temperatures, variable water levels, bleach and fabric softener dispensers, and optional automatic extra deep rinse. This washer includes the filter flo pan which is designed to remove lint from the wash and rinse water and serve as a detergent dispenser. It also includes the 'Mini-Basket' setting (water level), but is missing the mini basket (these are not impossible to find especially with online shopping). The model number is WWA8480B, and this is an 'extra large capacity' machine.

I purchased this washer for the specific purpose of washing dog bedding due to it's ability to remove dog fur during wash and rinse activation. "

"that's mine"...

hey lawrence,

what's the "GENTLE" washing cycle like?? can you please tell me if it agitates slowly or does it do a "stop & go" kind of agitation??

i've always wondered about the GE "GENTLE" washing cycle. but i have to admit, i just like the look of the center dial maytag's control panel better. i guess you could call me a "maytag mama". LOL....
:o)

but please tell me about the GE's "GENTLE" washing cycle. i'm very curious...

The gentle cycle actually is a slower agitation and spin speed.

This one has 5 programmed combinations (working from memory here):

Colorfast Cottons - normal agitation, fast spin, hot wash, warm rinse.
Non-colorfast Cottons - normal agitation, fast spin, warm wash, cold rinse.
Permanent Press - normal agitation, slow spin, warm wash, cold rinse.
Delicate - slow agitation, slow spin, warm wash, cold rinse.
Special (Woolens) - normal agitation, fast spin, warm wash, cold rinse.

One of the modifiers is for a warm rinse, which will override the programmed temperature selection. Same thing for a cold wash (I think).

thank you again...
:o)

Malcolm,

Nope, not to date.

The mystery of just to where will I be moving is slowly evolving. I made a verbal offer this afternoon on a house in Mobile, AL. If it is accepted I will not be paying to move this heavy thing to Mobile!

That is one of the best washers that my mother had it cleaned so well I wish that I still had it th warm rinse is great. Malcolm I may have the missing mini basket for it I will look for it just email me in this forum. Carl

I have a Hotpoint washer that had the "Ye Ol Fake Woodgrain" on it-the metal top panel on the console was "woodgrained"Merely removed it-Top of the console is now a more professional balck color.BETTER!!Was removed after changing the water level switch adjustment so the tub would fill up.

The "Special" cycle used to have slow agitation and fast spin. Slow agitation to prevent damage to the fibers and fast spin to remove the water that wool holds. That was why the "G" program for woolens was in the orange Normal cycle of the 1958 LK. The spin speed was in the cycle in the timer, but the agitation speed was set independently and the Normal cycle was the only one of the three that provided the nigh spin speed. It also gave a warm rinse as did older GE programmed washers so that the change in water temperature would not cause the wool to draw up and shrink from temperature shock.

That machine probably dates from the 80s. A very similar one was in the home a friend bought new in Vero Beach in about 1985.

Wood grain on control panels: When that was put on stoves, John called them "wood stoves."
