Top-of-the-line convertible, portable GE dishwasher
This is probably around 1967 or eight, it’s the first of the new pump design and actually worked a lot better than the dishwasher before this.
Hard to tell if the dishwasher is in great condition or not the box to detergent inside almost looks like it, but it looks like there’s some serious damage on the inside of the door These machines rusted out terribly from the plastic finish water would get behind it. We used to replace the whole inner doors because they became so rusty.
It’s still a great museum piece. We have one just like it at the museum, the unique upper rack was interesting, but it really reduced capacity. The overall capacity of GE dishwashers was pretty poor because of the cut out in the lower rack and the silverware basket placement. Capacity was also limited by the poor water distribution design if you loaded it properly with only dishes in the lower rack, you could get more in it, but it didn’t give you the capacity of other dishwashers of the time even single wash arm KitchenAids did far better than this.
