Early Mustang Guys Are Lucky . . .
Because there are so many cheap restoration parts available for their cars. When restoring less popular cars it is common to take a complete but rusty or damaged car with a desirable body configuration and then buy a straight, non-rusty version of the car with a less desirable cofiguration to act as a donor for floorpans, wheelwells, and other vulnerable parts. An example might be to start with a rusty but highly optioned convertible and buy a low-end four door sedan for the donor car. The big problem with this approach is that there will be small differences in many components due to the different body styles, so the restorer will often need to take the good parts off the donor car, cut them up and make modifications before welding them into the car being restored. 15K can disappear very fast once this process is underway.
