OK, we are finally in the new house, and I can tell you about the appliances that came with it.

1.) The original white Frigidaire range (Model number RS-70) with two ovens and deep well. Everything works except for the timer, although one of the burners has been replaced, and the coil is the modern narrow type.

2.) A white KitchenAid portable dishwasher (I guess we didn't need the mobilemaid after all...) Model KDD-66. It's just a "deluxe" with two settings: Full wash and Rinse 'n Hold. But it works, and doesn't quite monopolize the conversation like the MobileMaid.

3.) A white GE Dryer (model 510A1 W I think - it's hard to read the plate) which is also very plain Jane: It doesn't have a temperature setting.

4.) An AVOCADO Maytag washing machine. I can't find the model number. It works, but boy does it shimmy.

The washer and dryer are going to be swapped out with John's newer front loading stuff (My attempt to extoll the virtues of avocado Maytags fell on deaf ears). The range will also go away when the gas is installed and my coppertone O&M takes the throne. And the dishwasher is going to be usurped by a built-in as soon as we save up the pennies. So if any of these are anyone's dream machine, let me know.

Pics will come as soon as my battery charges.

A final, closer look at the Maytag

When you push in the "small" button, the "Normal" button goes flying across the top of the washer. It's really quite exciting. Otherwise, it's sort of short on Pizzazz.

Dan, the KA dishwasher is the same model I bought new back around 75, mine was Avocado and I should have kept it. They're pretty good for single arm dishwashers and hidden heating element. And pretty quiet to boot.. can you take a pic of the inside of it for me..

Hmmm. Appears the lower rack has been replaced. Can't tell about the upper. And there's no Constant Rinse! This would be a 16-series, yes? They didn't have Constant Rinse? Or did the "D" (Deluxe) not have it?

The Maytag is an A206

If it were closer, or I felt like paying for C & F, I would say "Yes, please!"

One of my aunts had that model range, and made some good meals on it.

The less said about that dryer, the better.

The original rack would have you put the large plates down the middle and the smaller plates along the sides. I had one of these for a short while in an apartment I rented years ago in Wisconsin. I always loved loading that machine.

I think the constant rinse didn't show up until the 17 series if service manual-memory serves.

Those are fun appliances to play with for while, Dan, you lucked out that they are all in relatively nice shape. You might get hooked on that Maytag washer though - they have such a soothing sound when agitating... Thanks for the pics, I can't wait to see what you guys do with the new house!

Those dishwasher pics bring back memories--right down to the Jet Dry basket. We had a KDD17 as a kid. It was identical to this except it had big exposed ball casters in front--like KA portables had to the end of the line. And ours was harvest gold. Ours did not have a constant rinse. Nor did it have a water heating element. I think the front loading portables had fewer of the special little touches than the convertible-portables. And I think the 17 series had done away with water heating on all but the Superba.

On these machines, pressing the timer "in" starts the cycle, rather than pressing a cycle button as on the built ins and convertibles. The cycle button on these remains pressed in until a different cycle is selected. I would fiddle with the buttons on ours and accidentally (or unknowingly) leave Rinse Hold pressed instead of Full Cycle. Mom usually started the machine right before she went to bed, and of course even on Rinse Hold it would start right up when she pushed the timer. Boy you could hear her holler in the morning when she went to take out her Corning percolator and found it wet and gloppy. Bless her heart though, she didn't forbid me to touch the machine. Just, "You MUST tell mommy when you've been messing with the dishwasher".

Good times.
T.

Dan wait a second...

Am I getting people/places/things mixed up?

I did not know/remember that you were moving. Didn't you just get the GE wall mount fridge to put in your wood paneled room? Or was that paneled room in THIS new house you just moved into? Or am I getting everything confused?

Please straighten me out while I go learn to like coffee and wake up.

Hi Dan, congratulations to you and your partner on your new home. The appliances are great! That Frigidaire range is just beautiful.

What is..

"Constant Rinse"? Also,I imagine the Normal button the Maytag fits on little metal tangs. If you just "tweak" them a little bit, the button will probably stay on

Dan, congratulations on the new place. I wish you much happiness for a long time, but what's with the @#%$&** gas stove? That Frigidaire is a 1953. I have the RT-70 which is the 1954 model with black knobs. I thought you had an electric range you were saving for this place. That GE dryer dates from the early-mid 60s when GE first started using the slanted control panel. You might not like it, but it is a very durable dryer as long as you keep the lint vacuumed out of the motor. The Maytag is the first of the 06 series so it dates from the mid-late 60s. Its finish looks like it is in remarkable shape. What's the copper pipe behind the dryer and don't say oil or I will come out there and make you a halo out of it.

So, does the house have a basement or other suitable place for backup appliances? If the house has been as well cared for as the appliances you have a really sweet place. Best wishes always.

Deep Tom, KA introduced their first in-the-sump heating element on the KDS-15 for heating the Sani Rinse and through the 18, only the Superba had the heating element for the Soak 'n Scrub and Sani Rinse. The 19 series with all of that stupid water heating was the first series to have a water heating element in the tank on all models, except for the new-style top loading portables which used it as the dry heater and ran it during the wash to maintain the water temp.
