Great Find

Neither appliance shows much wear although the upper oven has a newer generic element replacement. Since neither appliance has porcelain coatings they would be easily resurfaced to have a more pleasing appearance.

Nice dishwasher Jon !
Bob do you mean this wash arm...
I always liked the concept of two arms or multi spray systems.
Did this wash arm get into the corners and clean well ?
Picture from a member here... with out the tower.

Ah yes...

That machine still is waiting for life and love. Kelly was spot on about there being no porcelain--inside or out. Plastisol everywhere, applied more poorly than GE could manage, rife with opportunities for rust. Check the sump and areas where things like screws pass through it thoroughly; check the door for places where utensils might bump it and leave a scratch.

It sounds super neat when it runs, kind of like pressure-washing the galvanized siding of a barn :-).

They hold a ton of dishes and clean comparatively well; the wash tower is effective (I think this super-tall design was better than the mid-height one my machine has in the picture), but not a miracle worker.

I'm not sure if this last iteration of GM-Frigidaire dishwasher had the bakelite wash-arm like mine did in the pics above.

To keep your hand from slipping off!

Tom, you naughty guy, you make me smile with reference to older style tower! You're the man.

armature on bottom spray arm

The only models that had the additional metal arm adjacent to the bottom wash arm were the Imperial and Custom Imperial Frigidaires as well as the high end Montgomery Ward models they made. They also had the 7 bladed stainless steel pulverizer and a 150F sani cycle using Super Surge washing action designed by a computer.I had great results but the ones I had were real noisy and only lasted a few years before they were no longer repairable. The main issue with one was the steam was warping the butcher block top.that one had the coated interior finish and lasted about 7 years. The newer model had the polly tank and door frame and the door never stayed in alignment.

Armature on bottom spray arm

Chuck, I had a friend of mine while in college whose parents had a weekend home outside of Hot Springs, Ark. Several of us went there in like 1976 or 1977. The kitchen had harvest gold GM appliances and was built around 1974 to 1975. The dishwasher was a Custom Deluxe and had the 4 buttons just like the machine above. It did have the armature on the bottom wash arm. I'd never seen anything like it before in my life and was fascinated. It cleaned circles around the abomination called Spin Tube Frigidaires dishwashers and was significantly improved over the early Supersurge dishwashers I used. the triple dispenser/3 wash sequence did verry well ad I was the one who took care of all the dishes all that long weekend we were there.

G M FRIGIDARE WASH ARM DWs 1965-1980

All of the above DWs had plastisol coated steel tanks. They also had plastisol coated steel inner door panels till the early 1970s when they went to a much better rust proof polypropylene inner door panel. They never made a polypropylene tank so rust was always a potential problem with the tanks. Durability and cleaning were never top notch [ no wash filter or full upper wash arm ] but the later 1970s models were fairly quiet. Most Frigidare dealers of the time also sold kitchenaid dishwashers you could even buy poppy red panels from KA so your KA dishwasher would match your poppy frigidare appliances.
