GM Frigidaire Dryer Repair

Does anyone know how to remove the front panel from a GM Frigidaire dryer, model DCDAN? The customer says the dryer is 39 years old, and the belt needs replacing. I have had very little experience with Frigidaires. I removed the back panel, to view the idler wheel. The belt seems to go around the drum from the front, but I can't figure out how to remove the panel. I lifted up the top (similar to a Whirlpool), but did not find any screws holding the front panel on. Do I have to remove the front ring and slide the new belt over the drum from the top?

Remove the screws from the rear of the drum that hold it onto the drum shaft. With the cabinet top raised, move the drum forward and slip the belt off the rear of the drum. It would seem easier to remove the front ring to make more room, but I never had to do this on my 68. That's a very nice dryer - a great auto-dry and nice and soft clothes. The machine is very quiet too.

I can't really picture in my mind where these screws are. Are they on the perimeter of the dryer drum? Is the drum shaft easy to reach? Most importantly, once I take out these screws, are they easy to put back in? I wish I had a picture, but I couldn't find any online. Thanks.

Hi Fred, I emailed you with easy instructions on how to replace the belt. All you have to do is remove the front port and then slip the belt on thru the top of the dryer and then hook it on the idler from the back. Its really a very easy fix........Good Luck! Jimmy

Oh good, you got the answer. I checked the books, it's strange how instructions changed for the same dryer in 67 & 68 - the 68 book said to go from the back of the drum, the 67 book said from the front by removing the plate which sounds much easier!

I installed the belt you sent, after removing the front ring, and it was an easy installation. The 39-year-old dryer runs just as quiet as a new dryer. I had never worked on one of these in all my years repairing. Thanks again.
