GM Frigidaire up-and-down agitator origins

I've just began wondering on who at Frigidaire (GM) came up with the idea of their nearly unique up-and-down agitators?

Plunger or vacuum washing machines or possers would be my guess.

AMI Portable Washer

IIRC GM got their inspiration for jet action washing machines from portable AMI washer device. Some patents from General Motors for Frigidaire pulsator washers refer to AMI device.
