This morning, the "Hardest Working Man In Show Business", James Brown, passed on at the age of 73.

"Please, Please, Please", "I Feel Good", "Get Up (I Feel Like Being A) Sex Machine", "Papa's Got A Brand New Bag", "Hot Pants", "Get On The Good Foot", "Night Train".....whoa.

Should be a statue of him erected in every public park. I don't think anyone had more of an effect on music than he did.

He was playing Harms Plaza in my neighborhood this week, then BB King's on 42nd Street for New Year's Eve downtown. His manager said he'd been touring for six years straight and was exhausted.

Still woulda been a killer show to see...

Rest in peace, Godfather of Soul.

He is the very definition of a legend. A slightly tarnished one, perhaps, but I would imagine his death will prompt a burst of interest in his influence on popular music. Hope it also spurs an interest in his own music, as well. He seems to have been the somewhat forgotten legend the past 15 years.

I've hit the age where many of my musical heroes have passed on---Marc Bolan (of T.Rex), Kurt Cobain, three-fourths of The Ramones, Joe Strummer... Waaaaaaah! I'm middle-aged. How the hell did THAT happen?!

Very sad to hear JB has passed. His influence is STILL heard in today's hip-hop and R&B. Not to mention his music was sampled countless times in Old Skool rap.

His music wasn't for lovin' or slow dancing. He was about GETTING DOWN and this white boy certainly appreciates the contributions he's made to the music world.

Like JB said "It's got ta be funky"

James Brown was terrific. So much energy.
May he now rest in peace.

May he rest in peace. I too LOVE his music; James Brown songs can definitely be included in the group of songs that were ahead of their time when recorded, and are perfect in the modern world. They don't sound like "oldies" at all, in my opinion.
