A friend brought this from New England many years ago, they ate it in a restaurant and were so impressed they asked for and recieved the recipe..Its like no bread pudding I ever ate, to me its the very best.
10 large wheat rolls
10 eggs
1/2 cup sugar
3/4 Tbsp cinnamon
1/4 cup melted butter
1/2 Tbsp vanilla
1 can sweetened condensed milk
1 1/2 cups hot water
1/2 cup raisins
1/3 cup chopped apples
1/3 cup applesauce
Mix everything but the rolls, tear rolls in small pieces, add batter mixture, pour in a BIG flat casserole, "A roaster is about the right size", let set a few minutes, bake 425, for 15 to 25 minutes, according to how firm you want it, 20 min is enough to me.
Rum Sauce
in heavy saucepan, bring to boil,
1 cup whipping cream
1 stick butter
1 one pound box of brown sugar
When this boils, remove from heat and add
3 ounces white rum, pour over bread pudding when you take it from the oven, serve hot, you may use white bread if you wish, but the whole wheat adds a unique texture.
