I've never seen this model before and, when combined with that spiffy brushed copper (?) panel, I don't care that it's the "Custom" model, it's a little bit of perfection. It's a KDC-15. And I always liked this upper rack more than the ones on the more expensive models even if there aren't any "fold-down tines".

I've always had a perverse attraction to BOL appliances. There's just something minimalistic about them...

Plus, if this gets dishes as clean as I expect it does, it's better than 99% of the crap that's being sold now. Thanks for sharing!

A friend of our family had this exact model.

Yes, that is my favorite top rack. I had that top rack in my Regency. Loved it. Especially when it was combined with the raise/lower/tilt feature.

Noisy yet fast cycle. Great Machine.

There were, to the best of my knowledge, three different control panels for the KDC15 machines. The first was a painted sort of tan with a hint of rose in it to match the buttons on the I & S models. Then came a garish brassy colored panel and lastly this black one. They had problems with the paint on the original panel and then moved through the other two is the way it was explained to me.

Compared to the trash on the market today

This 'BOL' Hobart is, even right now, this very moment, better quality, faster and better at washing dishes than any BOL available today.

Having just had to do an emergency dishwasher replacement for a friend, I can attest to this. The last of the 'Potscrubbers' from GE aren't too bad, but wow, in terms of quality, how the mighty have fallen. As to the rest - I'd rather invest whatever was needed in fixing this beauty up (should anything be in need, probably not, it's not even 60 years old yet) than deal with the current trash.

It's enough to make ME want this machine!

A next door neighbor had a BOL like this but (circa. 19-FIFTIES) older... Unfortunately saw ready to be thrown out, whether still working like new or finally beyond salvageable by any kind of life-saving-repair...

Same w/ a neighbor across the street, a portable that got into a disuse, all the time I was around...

It betters today's garbage anyway...

When I was in college, a friend of mine's family had this dishwasher.  They lived in Dallas and I stayed with them for 3 UT vs. Oklahome football games.  The reputation of "this is a KitchenAid".  I loaded it up after breakfast (8 or 10 people) all prim and proper.  Ran hot water until it was hot at the sink and detergent in both prewash and main.  I had yibblits/shcmalz all over glasses and mugs in the top rack.  Hence enforced my disdain for KitchenAid dishwashers even more.  Our rotoracks at both homes did so much better.

While I don't share the adulation

For KitchenAid so many here feel, I've learned how to make ours work right.

1) Run the baked on soil through the Potscrubber first.

2) Use four times the enzymatic detergent as for the Potscrubber.

3) Consult the picture charts I made whilst experimenting to find out where to put what so it would get clean.

4) Avoid putting anything in the 'no-go' areas of the racks (it's about 35% of the total area).

5) Take the dishes out and put them back in the Potscrubber to get clean again.

 

Seriously, the quality is magnificent. The washing results? Better than today's trash, but compared to a Potscrubber with multi-orbital arm? Not even in the same league.

Now, cue the KA fanatics to explain why I don't know Jack....

Can't understand why make a quality machine if for all that engineering the machine leaves particles left on dishes. It should perform as good as it looks or is made.

The black control panel makes it look very interesting. It’s an improvement over the early ones that had paint problems.

As long as you don't have to "wash the dishes before you wash the dishes" which was Kitchen Aid's tagline as in pre-rinsing (or pre-washing) then shouldn't it even in that lowest-line-form do what it's supposed to do?

Seems to me the bottom-most rung Kitchen Aid, SHOULD do just as good as a Bells & Whistles ___(Insert Brand Name here)___ machine of another make...

Maytag had the tag line of "Do you wash your dishes before you wash your dishes" at the very beginning of the commercial, not KitchenAid.

All true- but compared to a Plastisol GE these were a step up clean-ability. Though I do agree with you guys- if its built like a tank it better perform well.
