Ugh.
Was driving the big ugly company van down lower Main in Wailuku going back to the shop. Cop steps out in street, waves me over- not any of the other people driving the same speed. Asks to see my license, goes and does wtf in his car. Comes back and gives me a ticket for 97 bucks as I was doing thirty in the silly 20 mph skool zone in front of St. Anthony. Ya know, if you saw the way these crazy people around here drive, you would wonder why the pigs would ever have time to give a ticket to some one like me-I've seens some jaw dropping stunts on this rock.

At least the aQQh*le cop could have noticed that today is my frickin' birthday.

speeding in a school zone

I have to disagree....NO ONE should speed in a school zone, and the cop could only stop one person. It was you. I have been ticketed in a school zone before...doing 20 in a 15 zone. Even though I have been a recipient of a school zone ticket, I still feel that a school zone is one place no one should speed...not for any reason. Hope I don't offend, but that is my $0.02 worth.....

Here, In NYC we teach our children the skills they need to survive.

Like:
Don't run in front of moving vehicles.
Focus on what you should be focused on.
Be aware of your surroundings.
Don't take candy from strangers.
Dont let anyone touch you where they should not.
Etc.

The "world should not be inconvenienced becuase someone is not doing their job as an adequate parent.

Sorry, but the criminals run around scott-free and rampant and normal citizens doing 20 in a 15 zone get harassed.

I wonder what these over-protective mother types that get laws enacted on their favor would think if THEY GOT WHOPPING TICKETS for being on the cell-phone/mobile while driving in a school zone; even with a hands-free headset. Sorry, but a driver discussing her feelings one the phone is not as important as saving a life. Wait till you get home.

'too much said!

I feel for you David. If anything, speed limits should be reased to realistic limits, such as the speed drivers actaully go. Teach bad/hesitant/unskilled/unfocused drivers to stay in the righ lane and CRAWL if need be.

got to disagree, toggle :)

No matter how much a child is taught to stay out of traffic, a school zone harbors many children at one time. If only ONE jumps out in traffic and a driver is going through the zone at 30 or so, there is injury. However, at 15 or 20 mph, there is a minimal chance of injury and a much greater chance of stopping before impact.......

On my way to work in the morning there is a long stretch of road with a 25mph speed limit. I usually putt along doing 28-30 or so, and there is usually someone right on my ass. I had one try and pass me on the right, that was funny! I really enjoy when there's a cop behind me and it's clear that he's not used to going so slow. ;-)

I wish some of the cops around here would at least use their turn signals. It seems unfair that the people we pay to uphold the traffic laws, often drive like idiots.

Psycho drivers

Remember a few months ago, Lousiana SUPPOSEDLY was cracking down on speeders? Well, that was a joke. Well the crack down is over and guess what? We have psychotic assholes on I-49, I-10 and hwy 90 that will tailgate, swerve around you, or generally weave in and out of traffic. Turn signals are optional, most people don't use them. And this is in the right lane. Speed limit on I-49 is 70. Go 70 and you'll have people whipping around you giving you the finger, etc. What we need is more cops around here that will pull people over NOT for plain speeding, but for aggressive driving. You know these cops around see it happening but won't lift a finger.

Speeding is one thing, driving mean and aggressively is another.

Well, I grew up in NYC. We fended for ourselves and did just fine without school zones, traffic cops to direct traffic, or overprotective mothers who thought it was society's responsibility to raise their kids. We listened to our parents, we even respected them, and now that they're both gone, miss what we had....and maybe that was the difference. No one had to tell us twice that we were being stupid or reckless...we were taught well from an early age before we were ever allowed to cross a street.

I read one guy saying that a cop told him, "When you go fishing, you catch one at a time". So that means it's either actually go the speed limit and piss people off or follow traffic and run the risk of getting a ticket. I wish we had the autobahn here where there are no limits in some areas, but the sad truth is, there's so many retards on the roads that they will get killed or kill somebody by driving stupidly.

Speed limits should be enforced in cities and towns and on most highways but this aggressive swerving, tailgating, racing, pissing people off has got to go.

Pefect example... I was in the left lane in bumper-to-bumper traffic and there was a maroon Silverado in back of me. Once the road widened I got in the middle lane thinking the Silverado would blow by me like I was standing still. Surprisingly he signalled and followed me in the middle lane. Didn't tailgate, just followed and I was going about 40 (speed limit). Some shithead in a white truck probably tailed his butt, whipped around, and then floored it and passed. What did the otherwise calm Silverado driver do? The same. What's with people? Everyone's pissed off and in a hurry to get there. Even 18 wheelers are in on the game. Yes, big tractor-trailers carrying God knows what acting the fool. Tailgating, swerving, being a jerk. That's just a little of the crap I put with every day. Hell, people in Boston don't drive that crazy.

Happy belated B-Day

Sorry to hear about a ticket and of all days your b-day. If it makes you feel any better..I got a ticket in Little Rock going 40 in a 30...cost me 185.00...the judge was nice enough to offer me a payment plan. Reading the remarks from folks in the north...I dont know what it is here..but teenagers have this thing about walking in the middle of the street. Most all our neighborhoods have sidewalks as mandated by the city building code. I'm forever sacred I'm going to run over someone by accident. Again...Happy Belated B-day:)/m

Other than in a school zone. I'd frankly rather people would drive ten miles over the limit than ten miles under it.

Foxworthy's Big Night Out...

....Did anyone see the monologue about rude drivers on Jeff Foxworthy's big night out? He made it hilarious, but he got his point across about rude drivers honking, giving others the bird, and generally p*ssing each other off.

Maybe if we all followed his suggestions and slowed down enough to give a driver that lets us in a thank you wave, to remember the speed limits, and to not LOSE our cool, we would all be better off.

I'm not immune; I try not to drive aggressively, but I cuss a blue streak in Portland traffic, at intersections, etc etc etc. Maybe I need to remember it too. We're all in a hurry and p*ssed off; maybe we need to address that instead of being nasty to each other.

And the way you drive affects the way others drive. You could be calmly driving in your lane, not tailgating or anything, and everyone is pretty much doing the same. Suddenly, without fail, comes an a$$hole and a few other will get pissed and start doing the same.

And if you drove at the speed limit on I49, you'd just about get run over with people passing you left and right and sometimes shooting the bird at you.

If you drive a small car or a minivan, you know what I"m talking about.

I get especaily miffed if I am one or two lanes over from the left (fast) lane and someone in a big fancy showy SUV rides my @$$. You know the type. On the phone, smoking testosterone (or estrogen) laden and aggressive. all ego and fluff like a peacock with his feathers open and on-display. (Are we compensating for a smalll---er mind or paycheck perhaps?)

They normally tailgate so close they will rear-end me. GEEZ could we do dinner and a movie first? *LOL* I just take my foot off the accelerator; they move left rather quickly. I would love to rig a momentary contact switch that makes my brake lights come on when, in fact, I am not braking.

I am a bit heavy-footed. But I focus, concentrate, understand the law of physics and can smell an indecisive or poorly-skilled driver a mile away.

Togs

Driving fast is ok, being an @$$hole is not. Around here, it's the big tough=guy he-men in their big pickup trucks and SUVS trying to push us small car drivers off the road, but it could be some angry young girl in a small car thinking she can get around wherever she wants to go, and they almost are always talking on the phone with their other hand clinched on top of the steering wheel (in the 12 o'clock position).

DC Driving is Like Playing Hollywood Squares....

Alex, I'll take the left lane to block!

Try driving anywhere around DC and there is someone always there in your way. No matter how fast you go, someone always wants to go faster. And someone always wants to get in front of you to slow you down. Traffic rarely moves much around here, let alone at a fast pace, but you have to do something really outrageous to get a Metropolitan Police Officer to even notice you. Maybe thats a good thing then?

Happy B'day David!
