Something really strange happened this morning and made my day much better.

Almost everybody knows I sleep with my laptop on the bed with me and I never shut it down, right?

My mom just came to my bedroom, set the volume to the maximum and opened an youtube video...

I hope it can cause the same effect on all of you. Please don't forget to put set the volume to the maximum BEFORE you click on the link.

Hey Thomas

I was wondering about you when I saw all the mud slides in Brazil.

I assume you and your's are safe due to your chatter is about coffee in the morining.

Is the bad stuff anywhere close?

That incident (actually 3 isolated incidents) happened in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro (Angra dos Reis).

Both cities are very far from here. Actually, here in Iguassu we're praying for some rain because everything is too dry.

What I can't understand is why some people are stupid enough to build on those areas.

Years ago, the same situation happened to that luxury resort where more than 50 people died on 1/1st. Fortunately when it happened by the first time nobody got hurt.

but, If they know there is a risk, why repeat the mistake and rebuild on that area?

Worst of all... I bet that in a few months, that resort will be rebuilt again...

in other regions like Sao paulo or Rio Grande do Sul (Sao Paulo is almost next to Rio and RS is the last state on the south) it couldn't be avoided.

Over these two regions (and rio too) it rained for WEEKS and it wasn't a plain rain, but very heavy storms. Nobody would imagine something like that happening someday and there's no drain system that can handle all that water in such little time.

Usually rain is measured in milimeters. Now the tv uses centimeters. can you imagine what is 50 cm of rain IN 3 HOURS?
It was like an olimpic swimming pool exploding above each house every 20 minutes. In some areas it could be compared to a tsunami.
the rivers oferflowed like a frigidaire spin drain. In seconds, miles were flooded and the people had no warning or time to do anything.
Even the forecast was wrong. 10 minutes before the storm, the sky was clear. suddenly all the weather monitors became mad and that super rain came and nobody knows from where.

Even the EBS couldn't help. what would the alert say? the rain will be so heavy that will make your roof collapse after 3 seconds. hold your breath and get ready to swiw, in 5 seconds your house will be completelly under water.
