From the base of a stalk, not just a rib. I was trying to keep some celery fresh in the refrigerator so I had it in a container of water. When I got the last of it, I noticed that it had some roots and new growth inside so I put it in the ground and have kept it watered with Miracle Gro and it is a little miniature celery plant. It would be nice to have a plant from which I could just cut a rib or two when needed.

Miracle grow? I hope you've made sure the fertilizer is for EATABLE plants.

Celery is particularly difficult to grow. It is very water intensive and without the correct mixture of nutrients will be bitter.

I wish you the best but don't be surprised if it doesn't work out.

What I recently learned is the best way to keep celery to prolong it.

Clean the stalks, cut off the ends, and keep the pieces fully submerged in fresh water maybe add a bit of salt to it and change out that water every couple of days.

It would be nice to be able to buy small quantities of veg like onions, celery and brocoli. One can only eat so much in a matter of days.

Tom,
That’s a really good tip, thanks! We love celery in our home and eat it everyday, either cut up in a green salad or celery and carrot sticks as a side with sandwiches, hot dogs and hamburgers.

I've been growing scallions in a jar on my counter. Just plop them in water, change it daily and viola! I can't remember where I got this tip, but it's rather nice to have the green on the counter.
