Hi everyone, I am reaching out to the Frigidaire experts here. I have a 1978 (I think) WC-7B or WC-7G (the model tag only says WC-7). I am not very familiar with these machines as I rarely worked on them when I was with working with my uncle. In any case I recently replaced the jet cone (it had cracked badly) with a new used one. While I had it out I inspected the rubber diaphragm, support collar, and the bellows. All looked great w/minor lint/dirt accumulation. I reassembled everything and correctly tightened the agitator lock nut using a torque wrench. Everything works, but I now have a really bad knocking sound during normal agitation (no knock on gentle). Based on the service lit I am going to check the agitate wheel and agitate arm. My question is how to remove the flexible ball coupler from the agitator shaft. The one figure shows a channel lock on the flexible coupler. Do you just unscrew it? Or is it pulled out? Is the thread left or right handed? Pics of the machine, and the illustration are below.

I would appreciate any advice the experts may have on what might be causing this condition. Since parts are extremely rare I don't want to screw this up! Thanks in advance!

Oh Big Al, what a magnificent find. John Combocombinationwasherdryer--LOL-- loves these beasts; he has a minty model in his basement that hums like a hydro-electric dam. I'm sure he'll know exactly what to do to help you.

Of all the Frigidaires, the 1-18 is dearest to my heart. Was once lucky enough to have one that leaked like the proverbial sieve except during the breath-taking spray rinse which is what I used it for much to my delight, for a few years, popping in loads from my conventional WW's.

I wish you the best of luck, old friend, and I am absolutely avocado with envy. Happy Memorial Day, Al.

Frigidaire one to 18 washer

Knocking during high-speed agitation, hi Alan you unscrew the damper with channel locks just like shown in your picture number six. It’s a standard lefty Lucy righty tidy thread.

When you remove the agitator arm, you might be able to take it apart and tighten up the ball type bearing in the arm if it’s not too badly worn otherwise you will have to look for another one.

This was a fairly common failure on these machines. You can keep using it with the noise, but it will probably destroy the part completely at some point.

John
