After nearly a quarter of a century run.

Uh, Laundress, dear--

One might do well to double check one's arithmetic.

I no longer watch Daytime (or Prime Time, for that matter,) but I do feel for the cast and crew.

When I DID watch Daytime, it was the ABC lineup, which here in the Cleveland region, starts in the early afternoon with "All My Children," then "One Life To Live," and then "General Hospital."

Ma took up Daytime with fervour after she retired.

Guiding Light~

Guiding Light premiered on radio in 1937, and hit the TV airwaves in 1952. It is the longest running soap opera in the history of daytime TV. What's really a shame is this is probably one of the best written soap operas on TV right now. I was a huge fan back in the mid 80's during the Lujack and Beth era. My sister also briefly dated an actor on that show 2 years ago, John Driscoll, (ex- Coop Bradshaw) whose character was recently killed off in a car crash.
It is such a shame that another part of American TV history will go dark. TV gets worse with every passing year. =(

I watched it back in the early 70s, had a huge crush on the guy who played the character Ed Horton (the guy was chunky, receeding hairline, and furry--what more did I need!!!). Actually, that's still the combo that "gets me". lol

oh, gawd..

That opening was so chessy...My favorite was the 1985 opening.
Oh, and I just loved Beverlee McKinsey as Alexandra Spaulding!

Guiding Light's early 90's theme...

...was the music when put on hold on P&G's customer service. Gonna miss it. Always watched it as a kid, and I still do now.

Never Watched It

. . . but my grandmother did. She would come out from the midwest to stay with us for a while back in the 60's and 70's and GL was appointment TV for her.

Obviously, enough people listened and watched over the past 72 years to keep the show on the air but nothing lasts forever. Does anyone know what the longest run was for an actor or actress on this show?

I'm amazed when I see Tad(?) Martin on the "All My Children" trailers as a middle aged man, being played by the same actor since the 70's. Back in the days of Dorothy Lyman's classic Opal Gardner character, AMC was must-see TV for me and most of my friends at the time. Once she quit the show, so did I, and I never watched another daytime soap again.

Oxydol,Silver Dust,Salvo,Ivory Liquid,Dash,Came',Comet,P

I miss the detergent comercials more than I do "Love of Life","Search for Tomorrow","The Secret Storm","The Edge of night","The Doctors",and now,"The Guiding Light".Just like "The Price is Right"it is unfortunately a reality,we're all getting up in age and our younger siblings and friends are not interested in watching people act out severe situations we all encounter at one time or another in our own lives.BUT IT SOLD A HELL OF A LOT OF SOAP!!!!!

uh-oh...!

I have not been a follower of that program , but both my Sister & I have kept in touch with Young & Restless- that was when "Snapper Foster" was played by the ( then hottie ) David Hasselhoff- I also liked Brenda Dickson as the first "Jill"-
Wonder when that one will end?

Y & R

I had a friend in the early 70's who was then and still is a Y & R viewer. Another guy played Snapper before Hasselhoff. I don't remember his name and never saw him again after he left Y & R.

here was "rebadged" Sentieri (Paths)

Remember Granny worried about Reeva's and Alan Spaulding's troubles

What about "The Bold and the Beautiful" ? Has Ridge fallen again into a burning furnace without scalding *LOL*? And who's ######## Brooke now ?
