Just a parting thread before I jet off to Barbados early tommorow morning, see how this thread turns out in a week when Im back.

Got caught out at work singing along to some cheesey, embarrassing songs on Monday night at work so thought why not make a thread about it.

Will kick start it off with some........

Marshall Hain - Dancing in the City... the song I was warbling along to when I heard "gawd he dosnt half know some rubbish LMAO!!!

Great hearing 'Dancing in the city' again. I had that song on a three cassette compilation years ago.

I've got no shame whatsoever about kitsch music though, I mean, this is what I requested at a works Christmas do a couple of year back:

Hooray for Hot Pants! And whimsical Scottish 70s popsters...

Shameful Confession:

"Modern Girl", by Sheena Easton.

He wakes and says hello, turns on the breakfast show
She fixes coffee while he takes a shower
Hey that was great, he said, I wish we could stay in bed
But I got to be at work in less than an hour
She manages a smile as he walks out the door
She's a modern girl who's been though this movie before

Chorus:
She don't build her world 'round no single man
But she's gettin' by, doin' what she can
She is free to be, what she wants to be
'N all what she wants to be, is a modern girl
Na na na na na, na na na na na, na na na na na, she's a modern girl

It looks like rain again, she takes a train again
She's on her way again through London town
Where she keeps a tangerine, flicks through a magazine
Until it's time to leave her dreams on the underground
She walks to the office like everyone else
An independent lady, takin' care of herself

chorus

She's been dreaming 'bout it all day long
As soon as she gets home, it's him on the telephone
He asks her to dinner, she says I'm not free
Tonight I'm going to stay at home and watch my TV

I don't build my world 'round no single man
But I'm gettin' by, doin' what I can
I am free to be, what I want to be
'N all what I want to be, is a modern girl

Na na na na na, na na na na na, na na na na na, she's a modern girl
Na na na na na, na na na na na, na na na na na, she's a modern girl
(repeats out)

Just a couple of "Secret Song Sins" ....... (Sorry

Delta Dawn, what's that flower you have on?
Could it be a faded rose from days gone by?
And did I hear you say he was a-meetin' you here today
To take you to his mansion in the sky?

She's forty-one and her daddy still calls 'er "baby"
All the folks 'round Brownsville say she's crazy
'cause she walks downtown with her suitcase in her hand
Lookin' for a mysterious dark-haired man

(CHORUS)

In her younger days they called her Delta Dawn
Prettiest woman you ever laid eyes on
Then a man of low degree stood by her side
Promised her he'd take her for his bride

(CHORUS)

In a bar in Toledo
across from the depot
on a bar stool she took off her ring
I thought i'd get closer
so I walked on over
I sat down and asked her name
When the drinks finally hit her
she said I'm no quitter
but I finally quit livin on dreams
I'm hungry for laughter
and here ever after
I'm after what-ever the other life brings

In the mirror I saw him
and I closely watched him I
thought how he looked out of place
He came to the woman
who sat there be-side me he
had a strange look on his face
The big hands were calloused
he looked like a mountain
for a minute I thought I was dead
But he started shaking
his big heart was breaking
he turned to the woman and said

You picked a fine time to leave me Lu-cille
with four hungry children and a crop in the field
I've had some bad times lived through some sad times but
this time your hurting won't heal
you picked a fine time to leave me Lu-cille.

After he left us
I ordered more whisky
I thought how she'd made him look small
From the lights of the bar room
to a rented ho-tel room we
walked without talking at all
She was a beauty
but when she came to me she
must have thought I'd lost my mind
I could'nt hold her
'cos the words that told her kept
coming back time after time

(Chorus)

Gonna find my baby, gonna hold her tight
gonna grab some afternoon delight.
My motto's always been; when it's right, it's right.
Why wait until the middle of a cold dark night.
When everything's a little clearer in the light of day.
And you know the night is always gonna be there any way.

Sky rockets in flight. Afternoon delight. Afternoon delight.

Thinkin' of you's workin' up my appetite
looking forward to a little afternoon delight.
Rubbin' sticks and stones together makes the sparks ingite
and the thought of rubbin' you is getting so exciting.

Sky rockets in flight. Afternoon delight. Afternoon delight.

Started out this morning feeling so polite
I always though a fish could not be caught who wouldn't bite
But you've got some bait a waitin' and I think I might try nibbling a little afternoon delight.

Sky rockets in flight. Afternoon delight. Afternoon delight.

Please be waiting for me baby when I come around.
We could make a lot of lovin' 'for the sun goes down.

Sky rockets in flight. Afternoon delight. Afternoon delight.

I was born in the wagon of a traveling show
My mama used to dance for the money they'd throw
papa would do whatever he could
Preach a little gospel
Sell a couple bottles of doctor Good

Gypsies, tramps and thieves
We'd hear it from the people of the town, they'd call us
Gypsies, tramps and thieves
But every night all the men would come around
And lay their money down

Picked up a boy this side of Mobile
Gave him a ride, fed him with a hot meal
I was sixteen, he was twenty one
Rode with us to Memphis
And Papa would have shot him if he knew what he'd done

Gypsies, tramps and thieves
We'd hear it from the people of the town, they'd call us
Gypsies, tramps and thieves
But every night all the men would come around
And lay their money down

I never had schoolin' but he taught me well
With his smooth Southern style
Three months later I'm a gal in trouble
And I haven't seen him for a while
I haven't seen him for a while

She was born in the wagon of a traveling show
Her mama used to dance for the money they'd throw
Grandpa'd do whatever he could
Preach a little gospel
Sell a couple bottles of doctor Good

Gypsies, tramps and thieves
We'd hear it from the people of the town, they'd call us
Gypsies, tramps and thieves
But every night all the men would come around
And lay their money down

This may only mean something to those of you who remember the Beatles' breakup, but here goes:

The freakin' BAY CITY ROLLERS. They were such a teenybopper band---for 12 year old girls, basically---but I loved a few of their songs and bought their albums, for which I took a LOT of crap from my friends in high school. Even went to see them at the Met Center in Minneapolis when I was a senior in high school ('76-'77). Several thousand screaming pre-teens, a bunch of moms & dads, and one lowly 18-year old male looking very uncomfortable, LOL!

Funny you mention this, as I was just YouTube-ing some of mine the other night. Here's one of them:

But seriously

The ultimate "Jukebox from hell" song... and if I get a jukebox, this record goes in it.

Here's My Guilty Pleasure

This is one of my favorite songs on cold karaoke nights--Carole King's 1962 masterpiece "It Might As Well Rain Until September":

What shall I write?
What can I say?
How can I tell you how much I miss you?

The weather here has been as nice as it can be
Although it doesn't really matter much to me
For all the fun I'll have while you're so far away
It might as well rain until September

I don't need sunny skies for thing I have to do
'Cause I stay home the whole day long and think of you
As far as I'm concerned each day's a rainy day
So It might as well rain until September

My friends look forward to their picnics on the beach
Yes everybody loves the summertime
But you know darling while your arms are out of reach
The summer isn't any friend of mine

It doesn't matter whether skies are grey or blue
It's raining in my heart 'cause I can't be with you
I'm only living for the day you're home to stay
So It might as well rain until September
September, September, oh
It might as well rain until September

And another...

This was S1 on the jukebox at the bowling alley when I was a kid... and again, for my future Seeburg... it will once again be S1.

I guess this could be considered a guilty pleasure as this song was overplayed on the radio and of course, we all knew that all the "cool" people listened to metal while the geeks like me listened to this.
