Guys, please hlp me choose a new blender

58limited....beware of inexpensive transformers and gray-market goods. They can burn out, and can take your favorite piece of gadgetry you shlepped over out with it as well....

Unfortunately, the better transformers also tend to weigh more.
 
My first blender was a push-button yellow Oster I got in the 80's. It was fine, but the push-buttons were impossible to clean. It finally died and I went blenderless for a few years. I think it died in daquiri duty. But I saved the plastic jar and a couple of mini-jars just in case. Then I picked up a beehive retro Oster with a glass jar about 10 years ago at Costco and it's been great. Never had a need for all those speeds anyway. On/Off/Pulse works fine for me. The beehive may have a modern motor but it's got that simple toggleswitch and a gen-u-ine chromed metal base that's a breeze to clean.

Also have one of those french made Cuisinart DLC-7's, but that's another story.
 
When was the last time you "frappe-d" anything?

Like... never? I'm not even sure what a Frappe speed is. Got an Oster all metal milkshake machine for whipping up drinks, anyway.

At most I used a middle button for medium speed, the fastest button most of the time, and the pulse for jogging things into the blades.

The neo-retro beehive Oster has all that in one toggle switch. The up position is fast, the lower position is momentary medium speed - good for pulsing. It's all metal (except for the collar that holds the glass jar) including the plate under the base. Best of all, the plate (I just checked) says "Made in USA". I guess I got one of the last ones made here.

It's 1/3 HP, which I think that "3 HP" mentioned earlier in this thread probably is as well.

Never understood why...it gets killer dry and hot out West as well (although they presumably wouldn't have a 220V fridge....)
 
I have a vintage HB commercial bar blender. Heavy as lead, but I wouldn't part with it for anything. That thing could probably take a chunk of sidewalk and reliquefy it back into wet concrete. Jars and parts are readily available.

Best 99 cents I ever spent at a thrift store.

Great blender Ritchie!

If you ever see any vintage Oster blender at a thrift sale or garage sale...pick it up! You can still get lots of parts, like blade assemblies, from Goodman's online. These are some of the best blenders that I have ever used. With an ice crusher blade, they outperform my two Vitamixes.

My best blender find...

My greatest deal was a white Oster Beehive blender (complete with faux wood grain control panel). It was in the trash pile of our local resale shop. I asked the ladies if I could have it. They told me they put it out there because it had not jar. Well....I took it home, cleaned it up, used another one of my Oster jars, and...blenderization!

In the following week, not only did the ladies find the jar, they found the booklet as well. The blade assembly and bearings were in excellent shape, so they did not need replacement. All of this was absolutely FREE! I guess this makes up for all the times that I have gotten ripped off!

I am always on the hunt for blenders (like I need another one)! Good luck on yours!!
