LOAVES OF BREAD!

It was a rainy, dreary day here in Texas, so I put down the paintbrush and pulled out the measuring cups. My family blessed me with a KitchenAid mixer for Christmas, so the breadmaking was easy. One loaf is regular white bread, and the other is cinnamon. I can't wait to eat a big ol' hunk with some butter! Guess I'll be hitting the gym on Monday before my rear end hits me! LOL

Dinner this evening....Smothered steak, rice with gravy, squash cassrole, homemade bread, and perhaps some apple crepes courtesy of the Oster Creperie!

Did anyone else get a chance to do a little kitchen magic today?

Enjoy and say YAY for dreary days. It gives us a chance to do something we really love!

Save me some, it ain't the bread that's fattening it's what you put on it and with homemade bread I can eat it pretty plain or use it for dipping in stew or soup. I do a lot of bread baking now that I've mastered it and it's become second nature I don't even really have to measure things like I used to, well at least not be so careful.
Two things that make it almost no fail and perfect rising are to add a tablespoon of lemon juice (enhances and stabizes the dough) and a tablespoon of vital wheat gluten, even if you're using high gluten bread flour already.

Oh, a Sovreign Toaster. I gave one of them as my Secret Santa gift. You sure have good taste! Do you have the matching canisters for the breadbox?
 
I did the same thing today but only baking was less calories. LOL LOL I made stickey buns, one with raisins and the other with walnuts. It was the first time I used the dough proofing setting on my range and it worked perfectly. I am enjoying them now getting my keyboard a little sticky with a cup of Gevalia Signature blend made in my new Tassimo machine.

Dinner here in Hooverland tonight consists of the following:

Chicken breast in white wine
fresh steamed asparagus
Mashed potatoes(made with the kitchenaid)
gravy

and a chocolate fudge stripe cake for desert.

yes, its a 3rd date for me and a really nice guy named Thomas, so we'll see how it goes!
 
Mmmm, Mmm! There's nothing like homemade bread, is there Venus? Screw Atkins; life is too short not to enjoy homemade bread! I hope your family is doing the 'we're not worthy' bow to you!

Venus, did you use the Cinnamon Bread recipe in the KA cookbook? I haven't made it in some time, but it is heavenly! I've never gone wrong with any of the recipes in their book.
 
I have a Toastmaster "Sovereign" as well, in my kitchen. The controls are in front and the handles are white. The same model was also made with black handles. Mine doesn't have the engraving in the front; there's a "Toastmaster Sovereign" nameplate on the bottom left. It's a wonderful toaster.
 
Hi Venus,The menu sounds delish! Smothered steak is one of my favorites. And I can close my eyes and smell that fresh bread from here! YUM!

Don't cook on Saturdays here,always on Sunday though. I fixed up a Sunbeam Mixmaster model 7 for my best friend a couple weeks ago. The store had navel oranges on sale today,so we bought 16 lbs for $6.00. Just got back from his house where we juiced all 16 lbs! Fresh O.J. is SOOO nice this time of year. And best of all,it's fun to make a mess in a friends kitchen for a change! LOL!!

I will have a slice too please! Looks divine! I gave up bread making in one of those all in one bread making machines. But I love my KA! I was given an old white one last year, and they sure do mix well.

Yes, quite a rainy dreary day here along the SE Texas Coast. We got 1 in. here, in Pasagetdowndena.

I did manage to go to the Laundrymat in SOHO and wash 7 large pillows in a WASCOMAT 50. Gotta love the sound of those FL's going into spin...reminds me of an airplane taking off.

Afterwards, went to the local King Dollar, and loaded up on Japanese Tide detergent, ROMA, Ariel regular, Ariel OxyAzul, and 5 bottles of Suavitel in various "flavors". 900ml bottles.

Daughter made a comment: "Mom, do you think you bought enough laundry detergent?".
My answer, Oh h3!! no!

Venus, (and the rest of my fellow Texans)let me know if you would like for me to pick you up anything from here that you might not have there...Hopefully we can have a mini-Tejas-wash-in before ya'll hit the Big One in AZ.

I'm really liking this Japanese Tide right now.
 
No kitchen duties here...

NE Ohio had a VERY rare warm and sunny day today! I'll dust off the KA tomorrow.

Even the crocus are sticking their heads up, but I think they'll be sorry.

Thank you for your compliments! Boy, that bread sure did turn out great. Yes, Scott, the recipes were from the KA manual/cookbook that came with the mixer. This is the third time I've made bread using that recipe. Atkins, schmatkins! You're right Frigilux....why deprive yourself of a little pleasure every once in a while!

Mike and Jeff...please feel free to FedEx any leftovers! Your creations sound soooooo good! Mike, don't keep me in suspense...what is a Tassimo? Is this a new acquisition? An espresso machine, perhaps? Do tell!

Mike H.: Ya like the toaster? I gotta million of 'em! LOL Actually, I just changed out the old Westinghouse for this one (just to be different). I got it for $2.00 at an estate sale, over the summer, and stuck it in a cabinet. I do have matching cannisters for the breadbox. They are in ok shape, and I use them for storage in the cabinets. I actually use these really cook Kromex ones on the counter.

Don: The butter dish is part of my Frankoma collection in Prairie Green. It's my favourite casual pottery. They not only make (their plant is in Sapulpa, OK) great dinnerware, but really unique art pieces as well. It's one of the few things that can stand up to my family! LOL

Rick: Oh, there is nothing like fresh orange juice! Growing up in Florida, there were fresh orange juice stands everywhere! I have several pounds of oranges in the fridge myself. I will definitely get the juicer out tomorrow for some fresh Florida sunshine! Cheers!

Carol: I went the breadmaker route for awhile. It's kind of a pain because you have to put the ingredients in the exact order listed on the recipe or else.....giant muffin or doorstop! I don't think I will ever use the breadmaker again!

Japanese Tide? Is that the name on the bag? We have a King Dollar in Brenham, so I may have to check this one out! They sell Suavitel at our Dollar General, as well as HEB. I've been using some Ensueno that Ross sent me. The scent is "Violet", and as Steve Bisso would say, "Ooh that's loud!" It is quite strong and I love it!

As a tecky i like hi tech kitchen gadgets so I wanted this for Christmas but waited until the prices dropped. I got mine at amazon.com.
The Tassimo by Braun and Kraft foods is a single cup beverage machine it makes coffee, tea, hot chocolate, Latte and Cappucino. I had it about 2 weeks not. I like it but it sounds like an air compressor when you use it. It has what Tassimo calls t-disks that are bar-coded so it know the time and temp and amount of water to use.
