These were introduced with a lot of fanfare some years ago, but I haven't heard much about them since. Did they find problems in the field with this type of cooking? Any first-hand users here on AW? Thanks!

Do you mean ovens like the GE Advantium?

I know that in order to use one, you needed a dedicated 240V line to the unit. I think this was a little off putting to potential buyers.
Some buyers also thought it was noisy and overly complex to use.

I haven't seen one in a store in a few years. But then again, I wasn't looking for one.

I have a GE Advantium oven-and very pleased with it-it works as a microwave, halogen oven or both together.Yes,it needs a 220-240V line to run-Use mine everyday like my Vitamix! It gets LOTS of use as a microwave, and speed oven-and it makes a good stovetop vent exhaust blower too-has the blower built it to the machine. The exhaust works when its a speed oven or microwave.Als-if mine dies-can't find a similar machine to replace it.was bought in 2000.

Thanks for the info. Rex, do you find yourself using the halogen more or less than the microwave part of the oven? Also can the halogen be used for things like microwave popcorn?

had one

I had the 120V version when i lived in Cincinnati. I really liked it. At the time, the 240V version did not have a bake only function. The 120V version did. It searved me well for about 2 years. I keep saying i would like to have another one.

Thanks again all. I'd love to have one, but with my other half it would be a matter of days or weeks until the fire department was at our house. The poor guy can't even make toast without burning it.
