Usually a cone on the back of the drum held some of the shaft and trunion support within. I'm sure someone has some Hamilton parts books around and a scanner... Else it keeps the load from forever rubbing against the back, because if the back gets too hot, it could scortch (or at least look bad). As for the Milnor, they don't have a cone, just a little hub build up to protect one huge mo'fo' tub bolt.
What was the brand name of the fabric softener "pillow" that you stuck to the ribs in the dryer? This one has the leftover velcro-like adhesive on one...
Buddy, funny you say that. I was in my off-site storage yesterday. There are 14 machines there, and only a few machines to which I am attached (1-18 CI dryer, Philco dryer, pink Westy Spacemates, Bendix Deluxe). I think I will give most of them away for free when the time is right (bug-eye Kenmore, Westy slant front dryer, 55 GE dryer, 2 1-18's in dubious condition, '63 Frigidaire dryer..). First things first, I'm giving up the 10x15 unit and taking on a 10x30 unit, and all the machines at home are going there. I need to reclaim my house desperately....
