Persil Washes Whiter....

In April 1909 the agreement was signed licensing Persil to be manufactured in the UK....Persil was first produced in Joseph Crossfields Factory in Warrington, Cheshire, UK about 30mins from Chester....In 1920 LeverBrothers built a new factory in Port Sunlight, Wirrall near Chester....Where Sunlight Soap was first produced and later Persil made...

The name Persil was formulated from its two active ingrediants, Perborate and Silicate....the rest is history as our Grandmothers, Mothers & Aunts washed using the first commercially produced soappowder!!!

Happy Birthday Persil...!!!

@chestermikeuk

Owowow Persil is 102 years old! Henkels Persil was first! It was produced in 1907. But indeed Persil is this year for over 100 years in the UK and Ireland. So happy birthday Persil and may you like your 2 cakes. One continental with 102 candles and an English/Irish one with 100 candles. And let us wish that this will be a never ending story of "Persil washes even whiter!"

@ myself

Not everywhere on the continent market henkel persil as persil. In France, Persil is Owned by Unilever. But Belgium the Netherlands and Germany it's still Henkels!

Now, did someone notice the date counter on the Port Sunlight website? It's more than nine years since 1999 passed away...

BTW

Port Sunlight seems an interesting place to visit. Next time when I take the train from Liverpool to Chester I will make an intermediate stop...

I visited Port Sunlight a couple of years ago. It's like stepping back in time and the sight of the huge factory next to the picturesque little village is quite bizarre! The Lady Lever art gallery is well worth a visit too.

I noticed the 100 years packs in Sainsbury's. It would have been nice if they'd done special commemorative tins or something as well.

I couldn't help myself!

As soon as I saw this thread I realized how much I miss the scent of Persil! I'm still using my first bottle of Ariel Excel Gel on my whites every single week and it is JUST about to run out! (I started using it quite a while before Christmas!) Even though I have another one to use as well as a third in my collection, I just couldn't resist! I went out and bought this!
