Elizabeth Victoria Montgomery

Died of colorectal cancer in 1995, and sadly joined a long list, one that grows still today of actors dying of the disease.

Apparently as with many others, Miss. Montgomery ignored the symptoms, and by the time the disease was diagnosed, it was too late. Rather than die in hospital, she returned to her home in Beverly Hills, where she later passed away surrounded by husband, family and friends.

Despite the sucess of "Bewitched" Miss. Montgomery was nominated several times, but never won an Emmy Award.

Several years after her death, Miss. Montomgery's estate held a sale of her personal affects for the benefit of a Los Angeles AIDS charity. Though she may have played a cute blonde surburban Conn. housewive, Elizabeth Montgomery's politics were anything but conservative. The lady spoke out against the Vietnam war, and spoke up for gay rights, even acting as grand marshall (along with fellow Bewitched co-star Dick York), of a gay pride parade.

While Bewitched is what most remember Miss. Montgomery for, her acting body of work was great and moved so far beyond that sitcom.

what i have found interesting...

....was how wealthy she and Derwood were.

I grew up poor, and didn't think anything of it, and a few years ago I saw an episode for the first time in ages and thought 'WOW!'

They were loaded :)

Yes, They Were

While the Stephens may not have been uber-rich they certainly weren't short of a penny or two.

If you watch Mrs. Stephen's wardrobe, you can see visual clues.

Gucci,Pucci, LV, not to mention trips to Europe.

Though in reality Samantha could have zapped any of those things up and had been all over the world as a young witch, before meeting "Dumb-Dumb".

I never thought of them as "loaded", just comfortable upper middle class. The house was nice but nothing really special, furniture was typical mid 60's stuff. We had the same TV they had for a few seasons, it was a colonial Zenith with the shutters on each side of the screen and the push button channel selector. Not really into women's fashion so I can't comment on her clothes.

I always recall the Tate's lived in a sort of a mansion compared to the Stevens' though...[this post was last edited: 5/1/2010-01:26]

well...no doubt.

But considering how I grew up, upper middle class was loaded!

(Upper middle class in some ways today is WAY poorer than it was then).

Aunt Clara was still my favorite though.
