According to Babel Fish,

..Well, maybe not. I tried, but when I paste it here and try to update/post, the Greek translation for Happy Birthday changes to Åõôõ÷Þ ãåíÝèëéá. That's nothing like it looked like on the Babel Fish site.

Happy Birthday in plain 'ole English!!!

How nice of you to notice the 'drip' coffeemaker, but, that left with the ex....BUH BYE!

Nothing but perks for the Toggle and I. He chose to make his birthday coffee this morning in the "4 Maid". Gaylord was right there too taking in all the bubbling action.

So many perks, so little time...........

He made me do it!

I was a bit afraid to take the plunge, but, he comforted me all through the process.

He was dying to try something new that we 'had put on the shelf' for quite a while.

I wouldn't do it, but he plugged it in and everything turned out fine.

In 5 minutes, it was hot and bubbly~!

It is very unique coffemaker made by 4 Maid. It is a Pyrex glass coffemaker insert that sits in a fancy stamped metal holder that is chromium over solid brass. There is a bakelite handle. The unit is heated by open curly coils that sit in a ceramic base. The coil is naked, visible and exposed and glows red hot! The outer metal holder has a metal clip that holds the Pyrex insert in the indentation where the SS band normally goes. It was quite fascinating.

Once plugged in, there was some dust on the element that burned off, and probably some small lint 'bunnies' below the element that also burned off. Once we got past that smell, the old bakelite cordset started getting hot itself, and that gave off a burning smell . So we changed the cord to a newer one and continued on our quest for our morning cup of coffee. Once unplugged, it retained heat in the ceramic base and kept it perking for quite a while. It was very neat to see it bubbling through the art deco bubbler top.
Although the insert was made by Pyrex, the stem, the coffee basket, the spreader plate and the top were not.

Last week while Steve and I were thrifting in CT. we found this Pyrex coffeemaker for $1.00. Obviously, the people did not know what they were giving away. It seems that this is the exact size and model of what was used for the 4 Maid. You will notice that handle is a bit different that subsequent models.
