Unless I miss my guess, that ad is from the 1969-1974 time frame. There was NO. GETTING. AWAY. from fake woodgrain back then. None. It was everywhere, on everything, at every price point. Your car had it on the dash and doors, your appliances had it on their control panels and handles, your TV, stereo and radio were swathed in it. Clocks had it on their cases and faces. There was a line of kitchen accessories and bath stuff called Brentwood that was plastic moulded to look like carved wood. Farberware made a drip coffeemaker that was all fake wood that was supposed to look like something made at the turn of the 20th Century. There were plastic combs and brushes made to look like wood. Formica kitchen counters were printed to look like walnut or butcher block. And it was YEARS before it all went away.
You really had to be there. And be damn glad you weren't. *shudders*
