In all of my time
using hard drives, I've never heard that click.........Like I said, THIS time, at least with the WD drive, it wasn't the drive itself, but the my book CASE electronics that had the issue...
I will definitely make sure to listen for the click.....I know the normal sounds they make, so if I hear anything unusual I will know that it's going bad.....At least it keeps working and gives you some kind of warning.
What I don't understand is why these external drives don't have any kind of fan. The My book is inside a case with nothing blowing on it......And what about the smaller my passport drives. They are packed tightly in a small little case and I see now way for air to even enter or exit other than the plug for the USB....
