...I'm kinda proud of myself.

Then again, some of you might kick me.

A while back, I posted my saga with the Whirlpool World Washer. Alas, it was not something for me to fix. So I bought a new Kenmore portable washer -- with a control panel so boring I look at it when I have trouble sleeping. Zzzzz's me out every time. But it does pretty doggone good.

I also had a cheesy, chinsy Sanyo dryer that I purchased used. It worked, but geeze it was cheesy.

So I found this guy on Craigslist for $30....

However...

...it was almond. Now, my kitchen is almond, so that would have been cool. But the washer is white.

I hate mismatched appliances. Call me OCD, whatever you want, but I hate mismatched appliances. And even though the kitchen is almond, I was not about to paint the new washer to match. It's new, and still under warranty.

So I painted the dryer. That was a scary proposition for me, as not only was I worried about how the job would come out, I didn't just mask and spray. I took the cabinet apart. I'm glad I did too, as it offered an opportunity to clean out all the lint.

By some miracle, I put it all back together properly and it works perfectly!

Here's the result, racked atop the Kenmore washer. Ok, so it's not a restoration or anything like you folks do...but a guy's gotta start somewhere, right?

I have the white washer/almond dryer conundrum as well. I thought about painting it, but that would involve painting the control panel on mine (also almond) and leave me with almond knobs.

That looks you did a good job on it. Watch out, though, I'm sure that the paint will flake off of the door handle. Speaking of which, I wish that the handles were a little deeper, to make more finger fit in there.

I recently wrote a review of the dryer on Epinions.com. I would've reviewed the washer, too, but my model is too old and isn't on there already. For a 110v dryer, I'm still impressed with its speed.

and yes, Dave...I agree...the handle is the weakest link. I painted it separately. Who would have though getting a plastic handle off a metal door and back on, would be such a pain? And when it starts flaking, I'll probably try that pain for plastic, or heck, I dunno. But I'll figure out something! You are so right about the depth of the handle. It's like you can get your fingertips in and that's it.

I painted the dryer using Appliance Epoxy. Had one heck of a time getting an even finish. But for a workshop job, I think it came out pretty good.

It looks very nice! You did a great job. At one time I had a harvest gold whirlpool washer with a white GE dryer, but they were in the basement so it didn't really bother me that much.
