Harvest gold Kenmore heavy duty dryer $150 (Detroit, MI)

They call the color mustard, but I'm assuming it's really harvest gold.

Per the ad: "We inherited this dryer. It’s just too pretty to put on the curb! Shiny mustard-color vintage Sears-Kenmore dryer. Lights up when running! We are moving to a house that already has a dryer. We had this serviced and it has worked for us like a charm for 4 years. Unsure if it is a collector item or not."

I've not before seen that model.  It's amazing how many different console layouts Kenmore had ... lots of retooling to produce them.

I'm going to sound like a dolt

But...

In the picture looking into the drum, lower right side of the back, below the right side grille or vent, there's a black object with two silver lines on it.
I've seen it in other dryers too, but our Whirlpool doesn't have it.
Could someone tell me what it is?

......the black thing with two silver "lines" is the electronic dryness sensor. Timer-only dryers do not have these sensors.

Our '96 Whirlpool must use a different type of sensor?
It has settings other than the timed cycle, so there must be a sensor of some sort.
I appreciate the education!
I've had such an appreciation for appliances all my life, but only recently started trying to learn more about them.

If your Whirlpool dryer has automatic as well as timed dry cycles but does not have the electronic sensor that means that your dryer uses a thermostat(s) to determine when the clothes are dry and shut off the dryer. Patrick Coffey

this measured the moisture in the load directly---the size and orientation of the sensors varied over the years. This was a better solution than the thermostatically-controlled autodry. Probably a very good dryer which will last another 40 years.

I have that model

I got it about 3 years ago and did MASSIVE delinting throughout, oiled the motor, etc. Excellent running machine, and under the lint door is a knob for turning the damn buzzer off when not needed. Other times I am glad it buzzes.

Any drier this old, get ALL the lint out, I was amazed at the 42 year build up of lint near all the gas burning areas.
