Good Idea

I remember when I was living on Provincetown the house had a Laundry room with a GE Filter Flo. Being it had a lock on the door, I asked the LandLord if I could use the machines. She said the washer was broken. It needed a New Fill Solenoid. So I replaced it.

Well, if any of you have visited Provincetown, a Washer and Dryer are like Heaven because of all the Septic issues in town and the homes are so close together. Anyway, some word leaked out that the laundry in a remote part of the house (I was in a Basement Studio) was working and there were 2 guys (Town Druggies) that broke into the house and were doing their laundry. I heard the machines running and when I went upstairs to the laundry room, all I could smell was rubber burning and "hot motor". They had jammed so many clothes the agitator couldn't turn.

I called the owner of the house to tell her what happened and she had the machines removed along with calling the police and had these two idiots arrested for B+E.

So, Coin Op would be somewhat of a deterrent from Students having a "Wash-in".

"Bring a Keg and I'll let you do laundry".

I had a co-op maytag for awhile in my apt, then I sold it to a lady who was loooking for an agitator top loader as hers broke,  she didn't just care you had to operate it with a coin.
I were thinking though to order a regular commercial maytag panel make it a regular machine and keep it, but you know...I just like better the fluid agitation and liked more the filter-flo, couldn't keep two ..so I  decided to sell  it, i really did need money also, the lady paid me really good money for it..considering I was given  it almost for free (just paid transport)  I was happy I made some money on it...

Sorry, but I  just don't get the reason you said they had to put a co-op.
I mean, if the owner for some reasons didn't want these students or whoever to use the machines original to the house, then he could have gone buying some cheap used ones to replace?
Unless coin operated were the only machines they found, for cheap, otherwise I really see no reason why or much sense in this....

Yes, Tim got a point, there're people who invest in homes  just to rent, maybe these same folks do own a complex somewhere and had some extra machines off the condo's laundry room.
Or maybe they were  just given them for free and that's what they had to put.....after all, if you got the key of the money box what's the deal? You'll just have a very reduced  cycle selection, and you won't be able to skip cycles, repeat,  and do single phases, spin only and such... but hey, you're probably going to do a favor to some kids/students or young people..less confusion for what may  likely be  non-laundry-learned- persons....anyone can use a coin operated...

Diane, a distant cousin, was married to a man who would only get her an automatic washer and dryer if they were coin-op, and she would put money in to pay for them. They were Kenmore from about '75 or so, and he would take the money out every week to go towards the bill. Since she wasn't employed, she had to collect pop bottles, ect. to come up with the change to operate them. Needless to say, she didn't stay married to this mean man for long.
