I've been noticing that some DVDs are, apparently, being programmed now to make it hard, if not impossible, to avoid the "previews of coming attractions." Any attempt to bypass gets the "Operation not permitted by disc" message. I've noticed this several times the last year or so.

Has anyone else noticed this? Or is this just a glitch in my DVD player?

Nope it's not you.

When I try to skip through this stuff. I get a little circle with a line through it! Can't even access the menu! They REALLY want you to watch that stuff!!!

yeah it a PIA....sometimes you can hit the FF button and make it speed thru 2X, 10x, 60x...etc

some DVD's you can hit your MENU key

and as a last resort, you have to sit thru the whole darn thing

You can always rip the DVDs to a computer, and create new discs without the extra garbage.

i give it a glance and if its not of interest to me, i pop some corn and grab a diet coke.

I may not be able to go to the menu as on some discs when you hit the "menu" button on the remote or the machine-but have been able to FF thru them.Or go ahead and let the material play thru--on some discs its so long I can heat a can of soup and prepare a drink while waiting for the stuff to play. You can also use that time to go to the bathroom,or whatever. But I don't like the studio that produced the disc telling ME how I may use the time before the moive starts in MY home.I have one Walt Disney disc that you can't even FF thru the unwanted material. You have to sit thru it to watch the movie.Other Disney programs aren't like that.
