Makes two of us

"The futuristic laundry system that gets clothes cleaner using only cold water and ozone."

Oh!zone, I thought that was something that is disappearing over the South Pole? Or was it the North Pole? I keep forgetting.

Bottom line, sounds like hokum to me.

SCAM

Like "Laundry-Balls" that apparent replace your detergent and those "Energy Efficient" electro-magnetic devices that apparently soften your water - but don't once it falls out of your tap, and don't provide lasting protection for water heaters. Such a device DOES NOT meet the European Union's standards for water treatment.

Ozone cannot clean your laundry. If you've done the laundry, and need to bleach your clothes, PERHAPS it can help. Otherwise, its useless.

Don't waste your money on this, unless you want a stinky washer, filthy and stinky clothes.

Consumer Reports tested two ozone-producing "detergent-less washing systems" and found them lacking. Both systems received a near bottom-of-the-barrel score of 31. To its credit, the pureWash device, at $297, was one hundred dollars cheaper than the other tested brand (Wash It).

By comparison, the two top performers (both scoring an 81) were Tide Ultra Stain Release (liquid) and Tide HE Plus Bleach Alternative (powder).

These detergents were deemed poor performers (liquids except where noted). All can be used in HE or non-HE washers.

OXYDOL 2X: 35
SUN Triple clean: 35
XTRA ScentSations: 32
TRADER JOE'S: 31
pureWash: 31 (detergent-less system)
Wash It: 31 (detergent-less system)
ECOS 2X: 29
MARTHA STEWART 2X: 26
GOOD VALUE Naturals (Wal*Mart): 25

But...

Will combining one of these machines with a detergent produce improved cleaning results?

I read somewhere that at least one of the detergentless systems advises you to add "a very small amount" of detergent to improve results.

I'd like to hear from the AW member who ordered one of these recently. It would be great to get some feedback from an actual user. My knee-jerk reaction is one of skepticism.

I don't know how much ozone is produced by one of these systems, but I was advised by my doctor to stop using an ozone-producing air cleaner about ten years ago. I have asthma/lung issues and he said something about ozone bonding with tiny particles in the air (dust, soot, etc.) which then bond with lung tissue upon inhalation. Or something like that.
