I couldn't help but notice that over the last several weeks there seems to be a calm civility to our group. I am just thinking out loud as it was mentioned that nasy fighting still went on without a certain members instigation. I AM NOT POSTING THIS OUT TO INSTIGATE ANYTHING. I'm just making an observation that I think warrants notice.

I don't get to participate as often as I would like but I have enjoyed the unconfrontational atmosphere of the last several weeks :-)

Civility, my elbow!

A few weeks ago here, I got MANY off-board emails about my friendship with another AW.org member. These were from more than one person.

I think that at nearly 50, I am able to choose my friends and aquaintences myself.

I like nearly everyone here, and love a lot of you, but let us not kid ourselves. Civility, particularly on the internets can be a very thin veneer.

Don't get me wrong, I am a major fan of civility, but I am also in favour trying to "live and let live."

Civility, my elbow!

I'm so sorry to hear that, Lawrence, but I was talking about what was going on in the public forum. I think that everyone should have the choice as to who they keep as friends. You sound just a little bit bitter and if I contributed to that in any small way then please accept my most humble apology :-)

I do still like the fact that we don't have the bickering and such. I never get bored with nice people.

Kill them with kindness

I miss the really good people that have left due to flame-wars.

We really should not feed, respond to or get baited by the trolls.

Civility, my elbow!

Your a LOT nicer about it than I would have been ! NO ONE has a right to tell ANYONE who their friends should be FOR ANY REASON!

I, on the other hand, am not looking forward to the new Dirty Laundry (or whatever it's called) forum. I predict nothing but headaches for Robert as people complain about feeling threatened/insulted, etc., in a forum where people will feel free to let 'er rip because they're paying for the privilege. The inevitable hurt and anger will affect current forums, as it will be hard to hurl (or receive) invective at Dirty Laundry, then come back here and post as if all is well.

Personally, I agree with the level-headed assertions that we should simply not respond to inflammatory comments, here. It's no fun for trolls to spill gasoline if no one shows up with a lit match.

When the new forum makes its appearance, I'll choose to bypass it.
