It has been a whirlwind of activity since Thursday - preparing for my dinner party on Saturday night. That was a great party -I love when guests come at 6pm and are still gabbing at 12:30am - means the crowd is right. As immodest as it sounds, the table was breathtaking and the food was outstanding. I have to believe my mother was behind me orchestrating - she loved nothing more than having her home as a gathering spot and she loved setting an elegant table. It was a great treat for my friends whose families are gone to have a traditional Italian Christmas dinner. Even better was that it was warm enough Saturday so that after everyone left, I cranked up my 1-18 in the garage with some Rinso Blue to deal with all the table linens.
Christmas Eve we headed to Westborough, Mass. to my childhood friend's open house. She has a large, gorgeous home and has a wonderful group of friends and neighbors so it is always a great time. Also, it is important for her younger brother, as well as me and my sister to go up there. We were neighbors for many years and our parents were inseparable - always had holidays together. Since our mothers died within a year of each other, she feels the party isn't complete unless we are there. It is a long ride to go back and forth in the same day, but well worth it
Christmas Day was lower key. I visited local friends throughout the day and then dinner with the brother and family of my Westborough friend at 6:30 ( actually a bit late for a Christmas Day dinner) but fine nonetheless.
Exhausted by 9:00 and fast asleep by 10. All in all a successful holiday.
