... a subtropical heat wave ...

Yay, we're having perhaps the last heat wave of the Bay Area summer. Temps in the 80's and 90's by the bay today. Last night was delightful, as I walked around the main drag visiting shops I'd never been to before. All I needed was sandals and short sleeve shirt, at 8 pm. 24 hours earlier, I would have needed a jacket.

I call this kind of weather "isothermal". The temp where you could strip naked outdoors and still feel comfortable. Your clothes feel like they are not there. Joyous.

a subtropical heat wave ...

dude! make a visit to the midwest (missouri would be a good start) for about a week and enjoy the 100-105 degree weather we've had for the last month....i think you would change your tune.......LOL

We had a little less than a weeks break from all the heat and humidity but it wasj back yesterday with a vengeance and most of today as well. Thankfully a thunderstorm just rolled in. I can't stand it.

Oh last night was so fabulous, it dropped down to the low 50's for the first time in almost three months, I turned the AC off and we had all the windows opened and the breeze blew in all night long. Perfect sleeping weather under a comforter. Two more days before my most favorite months of the year begin YAY! Like all the seasons, I like summer at first, but after three months of it I'm ready to send it on its merry little way.

Suds, it looks like we could get some humidity mixed in with this heat today. Thick cloud bank heading north this morning (the same one that is bringing T-storms to Yosemite) and it seems to be covering the sky fairly quickly here at the south end of the bay.

Last night it did not cool off. The thermometer on my car read 73 on the way in to work this morning. This is OK for a few days at a time, but it seems the marine layer is still not ready to start providing the natural air conditioning that precludes the need for mechanical a/c in most Bay Area homes. Right now I wish I had a/c at home, but I've survived worse heat waves than this. For now, the ceiling fans will continue running 24/7 until the fog returns.

HOT HOT HOT

It was 113 yesterday and 109 today. My truck was in the shop all day so i walked to the post office and later to the barber. I think i lost 5 pounds in sweat alone!!! Very humid here with dark clouds and sprinkles here and there. There were lightning strikes on the way to the barber and i prayed along the way " Please don't hit me! Please don't hit me!" LOL!

So different in the UK

Hi everyone

Although, too much heat is unbearable, and I can't imagine having to deal with very hot humid weather, I can hardly relate to that this year. Our summer in the UK has been appaulling! Mass floods everywhere and grey skies nearly everyday. Apparently this is the wettest summer in recorded history. Mind you knowing the British if it was hot we would be moaning LOL!

Here is a picture of our village in July, you can see the neighbours front garden has flooded. Luckily our house is on higher ground.

Hope you are all well over there.

Been to Augusta, GA in August. I don't think it gets much hotter/muggier than that. Savannah was a bit nicer, though, I think the ocean cooled it down a bit.

Also been to southern Arizona in the summer... very hot hot hot, as is Death Valley and the Mohave. And those were in the days when most cars didn't have AC.

It's cooling off a bit more tonight.

RobM: As they say in Ireland, "Ah, but it's a soft rain"... lol...

Re: Higher Temps here:

We've finally gotten our typical "State Fair" Weather this Week. It is almost always over 100-degrees/F here for the Fair, but the opening Week started out in mid to upper 90's. This Week, it has gotten up to at least 105-Degrees/F and maybe hotter. The Fair will be over this Monday {Labor Day} and I didn't get to go again. It is just too expensive for only one person to pay the Parking. If I had someone to go with me to share that expense, besides the entry Fee as well, I would have loved to go this year.

Peace and Summer Fun Times, Steve
