I'd say "LOL", but his passing is sad. He really did bring a great new convenience food to millions, if not billions, of people worldwide.

I still find a use for the traditional dried 3 minute ramen. In a pinch it makes a good noodle base for a hearty soup. I add home-made chicken or turkey broth, veggies, maybe some meat, maybe beat an egg into it. I use maybe 1/2 of the high salt flavoring packet.

When I was a half-starved teen growing up in San Francisco, my Chinese friends would serve me ramen noodles. I loved them, couldn't get enough.

Sure, fresh noodles are way better, but these dried things are pretty good anyway.

We call it saimin here

Wow! What would we eat here in Hawai'i (besides rice)if it there was no saimin! One entire aisle in the grocery store is devoted to the stuff-both the cup o'noodles kine and the "noodle brick in a bag" kine. We are never without a case of that in the house and I get more before hurricane season. When I had my shop, I ate a cup o'noodles every day for breakfast. This will be big news here.

The adolescent comes out in me

I just can't get over his first name...

LOL!!!

But it is sad he's passed. My prayers go out to his family and friends.
