We have a Kenmore HE3t that has been making a click and rattle like noise for a while, but it's getting worse. Makes the sound just before it before it reaches a full spin and when the drum turns clockwise during the wash cycle. Any ideas? I've read some internet posts that mentioned a possible broken drum support. Thanks

Broken Spider

Sounds very much like it.
Try vertically lifting the inner drum relative to the outer. There should be virtually no discernible relative movement. Turn the drum through 90 degrees and repeat the test. Do this twice more, turning the drum in the same direction each time.
Any movement in one or two positions indicates a failed spider but the only way to be absolutely sure is to strip the machine down. To that end the Shop Manual for the Whirlpool Duets is at the link below. Your He3 is basically a re-badged 'Duet'.
Good Luck

simpler than the spider and more probable.....

Before the scaremonger lot chime in just check its not something like a lost bra wire trapped under the tub or something that might not cause the noise when the drums rotating one way but does the other way.

Piece of wire, a coin, plastic, all can float around in water and make very little noise but when the tub drains and empties and a certain tub speed can cause the foreign object to move from its usual hiding place and cause a noise.

Take the top off the machine and shine a torch into the drum while rotating it should enable you to see anything that is causing the issue first.
You might have to stick your head inside the drum to see clearly. - much easier than stripping it down.

Quite agree.
Re-reading my post I realize that I did not make is absolutely clear that the strip down was only required if the there was vertical movement possible between the two drums.
Thanks for pointing that out.

Here is what one machine with a fractured spider sounded like

I have a similar model (Whirlpool Duet) and there is a button catcher connected on the pump. You have to remove the base panel right under the door. There are bolts to remove in order to access the device. Once there, take a bowl or small bucket to catch reserved water and place it just under the cup. Unscrew the coverand look inside for any loose items. They usually fall right out.Remove any lint and rescrew the cover on. Move it to meet the green dot located on the cylinder. You need to do this periodicly especially if you don't check pockets before loading.
