??

Is this a good price for this item? Are they good washers? If so im totally bidding on it!! YAY

500 pounds!!!!! in weight?

I wish i liked them, but I don't. If someone is dying for it I'll do the buy and pick up. I know a few muscle men. I can move my own machines around alone, but none of them weighs 500 pounds. Holy Cow!

500 pounds

No way. I'd say it's less than 200. In any event...it's one of the lighter if not lightest machine you'll have in your collection.

Is it a good washer? I'd say no. It doesn't spin fast enough to extract well, and the cylinder is rather small.

Is it fun to own? I'd say yes. It's makes happy feelings when you operate it...it just doesn't make particularly clean clothing!

Opinions vary, I'm sure.

I guarantee it does not weigh 500 pounds though.

Bid

Well i just placed a bid on it, haha. If i do get it "mickeyd from (Buffalo NY)" would you be able to pick it up if the need arises? Thanks so much. You're all the best.

Sharples

Nice little machine there, and in NO way does it weigh 500 pounds unless he is selling it with the concrete it was bolted too! Don't pay for that!!

You can move these machines with your pinky!

I am restoring my prewar model, yes they were introduced way before 1945 as the seller states.

The later (1950's) Gyramatic models cleaned great because they upped the drum size and got great turnover. These models tend to roll the clothes but are real fun to watch and listen too.

Enjoy, and post pics when you get it up and running.

good housekeeping seal

I just noticed that the one for sale still has some of the good housekeeping seal remaining on the window. I bet that IS going to be in good running condition, maybe even without any work. I hope you get it, Sharples.

A few years ago when I was installing one, Robert sent me the installation instructions, which I have here somewhere, or I'm sure he still has as well.

Here's a photo of the one I owned. which was taken one spring when the melting snow suddenly overcame the sump and a flowing river came through my laundry studio...it did make a lovely reflecting pond though....

A side lesson here may be...take a photo..it may last longer (in your life). The machine still exists, of course, only now in the hands of another collector. That's all in the game.

Early Bendix

I am so glad someone bought it who will care for it and will value it.

This machine is a sentimental favorite as my parents bought a full cabinet model when Bendix came back to civilian production after WWII. It was bolted to the floor in the basement laundry room and I enjoyed watching the “action” through the glass door.

Please keep us posted with pictures if you can.
