It is indeed a 1-18. Obviously this particular person is either young or did not closely follow appliance history (LOL).
 
Methinks it is the start button/knob, but since I only have owned the 1-18 washer in Poppy, I don't know. I have alerted my friends who I traded the Poppy Red 1-18 for an antique room size rug that they should bid on the aforementioned dryer.

Missing knob,

Doesn't it look like the knob on the console's middle wood grain square is missing? Or maybe it is the angle of the photo.
 
No knob is missing. From the left: temp selector, start button, timer.

This is one of the first 1-18 dryers, an early model.

ya. You must attend uni's dials, knobs, toggleswitches and
buttons 1A, a prerequisite to the more advanced Washer & Dryer
Operating Theory Series. :>)
