Hi Robert. It is a discontinued machine. I wonder how long parts will be available. In September, I paid $399.00 at Lowes for a Whirltag and it is a great machine.

Ross

Their web site separate from Ebay lists the machine for $239 ... so there's a $86 upcharge for Ebay, which may be covering the shipping, but that's still a give-away price.

Can this possibly be legitimate??

I think so...

they've been an eBayer for years and standard ship rate is $95.00. IIRC they have 24 units to move. They are also offering six months same-as-cash; they must really want to move 'em! Still in factory sealed cartons. The discontinued status does give one pause, however...

Package arrived.

Now the question is do I leave it on the skid and sell it as an unused collectible in 50 years ... or have some fun with it today?

Very cool Glen,
I say use it.
I have never seen one of these Neptune's in action in person. I think it was a cool design. I would say the last of the true Maytag engineering.
Congratulations!
Brent

Use it!!

Congrats, Glenn! It's a fantastic drama washer - the very last original Maytag Corp. top-loading washer design. Top to bottom, this is a Maytag original and will certainly be a rarity someday. But what is the fun of having a washer if you can't experience the joy of washing? Use it in good health and enjoy!

Someone correct me if I'm mistaken, but I believe the Neptune TL was actually A Haier design. I own enough Haier's to recognize one when I see one-even the controls scream HAIER. Does the machine say where it was manufactured-or just MAYTAG CO.-Newton, Iowa? I would like to get one myself-but, I'm running out of space. I'm uploading 2 pics of the HAIER model sold in China.

Neptune TL

These were Maytag designed, made by Maytag in a plant in South Carolina (closed before Whirlpool took over).

my bad...

didn't see that the second time around, white is $100 more. Btw, went back to my local BIG Lots - the exact Mao is still there, now marked down to $279. But, a quick peek inside and I see it is missing the inner lid - so, that's a tip off it's been around the block I think - its out of the carton already, too

Interesting difference between the Maytag and the Haier models, it seems that the Haier has the plates lined up with each other while the Maytag has the plates lined up opposite to each other... With the way the transmission works in these machines, the alignment of the disks cannot be changed, Haier on the left, Maytag on the right:

Per the service manual I have, Neppy TLs were done in Florence, SC.

Perhaps Maytag licensed the design to Haier?

The Haier specimen has an inner-tub lid and doesn't have the in-the-lid detergent dispenser.

Here's my model/serial label. Perhaps someone can look up those patents.

I'm fascinated with this machine--WHOEVER built it! Is there a way to trick it to fill-up with more water (like I did on my HARMONY) or is it purely "automatic"? I know on the HARMONY, the THROW-RUG cycle fills up. Does it have a BULKY/THROW-RUG type cycle? How does it wash? Does it knot things up?
