Help Support :

That is a pretty one---the match for my refrigerator.
Must weigh about 400lbs.Bring some muscle! Starting bid is only $850.00? Well, that is likely what it will cost to power it for a year--------------------!

Don't know what is going on with some eBay sellers these days, but these high opening bids are getting out of hand.

Case in point, someone is selling an portable Ironrite ironer, that has clearly seen better days (broken form plate, missing safety release, and more defects), for an opening bid of $300.
I gave about $50 or so for mine and it is in damn excellent condition and came with original dust cover.

Either times are getting tight out there, or people have a very high idea of what their tat is worth.

As for the freezer, don't think it would take more energy than one of today's units. After all it is meant for long term storage so one shouldn't need to open it that ofte, maybe once a day or so, perhaps more often during the summer if ice cream and other frozen goodies were stored down there.

I agree....
There have been items popping up as of late on eBay that are wayyyyyyyyy overpriced. This one is a from a "newbie" seller, and they seem to ALL do that. The freezer doesn't even work. Good luck in getting it fixed. I have a 1953 Philco Fridge out in the garage and I can't get anyone to fix it. EVERY shop I call goes into the same old song and dance about Freon, so I'm assuming older fridges and freezers are going to be as big of a pain in the ass to get repaired as older car air conditioning units?
As for power useage.... Older units probably use LESS than newer units. It's the defrost and fans in the new stuff that sucks the power. Use common sense and think what's going to use more "juice", a 1956 Frigidaire that only has a compressor that kicks on, or a new Sub Zero.

The auction says it works, needs cosmetic repair. That right there drops value tremdously. I think these guys look at websites that sell restored units and think theirs is worth just as much. This seller really needs better pictures, kinda hard to really get a good idea of what it looks like.

I think that Ebay should emphasize the fact that the better your photos, the more money your item will bring in. Add a detailed description to great photos and you will get a good price.

These photos are amongst the crappiest I have ever seen. And that opening bid of $850.00? Who are they trying to kid?

I agree. This will end up being a "No Sale".

As evil as this sounds, sometimes it's kinda interesting to see how sellers screw up their auctions. Like ANYTHING made in the 50s's is a eames design, or how about this one "Mint Condition except for (fill in the defects)". If it was mint it wouldn't have any defects!

DELUX(e) 7-38 is a 7.2 cu ft refrigerator, 1938 model with porcelain exterior and interior finish. 1/7 HP motor.

"needs cosmetic repair" most likely means that some serious injury has been inflicted on the porcelain finish and it will be a nightmare to repair.

$850. It must be very dark where that seller's head is.
