While I have been relatively quiet for the last couple of years, I've still kept up with all the goings on at AW.org!
Between health issues a while back for both my partner and myself and MAJOR changes at my job more recently, collecting sort of took a back seat for a while. But things are much better now and I have the time to get back to my little collection, which I'll update everyone on in the next couple of posts...

Well the collection expanded shortly thereafter. I got the mate to the unimatic, thus completing my "Dream" set.

Three Flair ranges complete my collection of vintage appliances. Currently there's no chance of it growing because I have no room. We were planning to move and even had a new house all picked out and ready to sign. But for some reason I stepped back. Good thing I did otherwise I'd be one of those unfortunate persons whose mortgage is more than the value of their home.

Now for the bad news...

I've had the unimatic hooked up and managed to use it at least once a month. However, when I went to use it recently, nothing happend! Totally dead! The last time I used it there were no issues. It completed the entire cycle. I only had one incident where the motor protector switch popped due to a very unbalanced load. But i reset it and had no more problems after that. My first thought was that maybe the switch had popped again. But pressing it didn't do anything.

So I have to ask the unimatic experts their opinions.

Weren't those reset buttons plagued with issues that pronounced the machine to be dead when they acted up? Maybe bypass the switch and see what happens.

IIRC, the timers can be problematic due the high amount of current that passes through them during the spin cycle.

In the meantime

I decided to swap it out with the 1-18. I know the machine was functioning when I got it. But after a couple of years sitting in the garage with a two sub-zero winters, I had concerns. I fired it up and tested out the spin cycle. No problems. I then filled it with water and looked for any leaks. So far so good. So then I set for a wash cycle and the old gal started pulsating away happily.

The problem, when it get to the spin cycle, it spins but won't drain. It started to smell funny like burning rubber or something and then tripped the garage circuit breaker. I don't think there's anything obstructing the drain because I used my shop vac to suck the water out of the tub through the drain hose. I left a bit of water in the tub and gave it another try. Still the same thing happened.

However, once I had the tub completely drained and put it back on spin, it was fine. No smell, no tripped circuit breaker.

So once again I'll leave to the experts here in the club for some guidance...

The stove looks like the model shown in episodes of "Bewitched". I always thought the "drawer" concept was intriguing.
