HELP Maytag dryer won't heat

My everyday Maytag electric dryer (model GED 309) won't heat on any of the heat cycles. What do you all think is wrong and are repair parts still avaliable? I bought the dyer new in 1980. Thanks, Gary

I would check the high-limit thermostat first...that what failed on my 1978 DG106...parts are available at repairclinic.com.

More than likely a burned wire at the element.

Honestly it could be any of a half of a dozen things.  Parts can generally still be found.  Certainly thermostats and wire are easy to get.  Timers are a bit dicier but there are still some of them around.  I honestly don't know whether or not the heating element can be restrung in these if it is bad or if you need to replace the whole heater box.  Without doing a 20 minute comparison of parts manuals I can't say if this heater was used on later models or not.

Circuit breaker

Check both circuit breakers, one might still be on, supplying power to the motor, the element, but not the heater. That might happen on occasion.

BTW, I looked it up and the heater element is still stocked for this dryer.  It's now FSP part Y313538.

The repairman was here while I was gone; he left a note and said that it was the heating element and will order one up. Thanks for your help. Gary

Maytag fixed today

The heating element was replaced today and things are up and running once again. We vacuumed everything out, checked all of the sensors, put it all back together and it is wonderful; quiet and heating just fine. Thanks to all for helping. Gary
