I lubed the damper pads on the A612 last weekend, but can't remember if the unbalance mechanism is supposed to trip at 3lbs. or more. The older manuals say, but newer ones don't. Does anyone know for certain?

Well,

Just use the cat ;-)

I don't think the testing procedure changed as much of that dampening system changed. Try the three pound weight and see if you think it's tripping too soon. I actually like the springs a little tighter, just a hair as some machines seem to have a tough time with smaller loads and trip the unbalance too often.

Yes Lawrence Maytag Bear! I was thinking the same thing....what a cute kitty! And standing guard over the Maytag, like a good watch cat.........

That's Buster, my old buddy. He's about 17, and is the sweetest cat ever. He's got the personality of a golden retriever. Loves laps and naps, has the bluest eyes ever. What a mess he was when I found him; the vet had no hope he would make it, but here he is. Greatest stray to ever walk thru the door. Back to the Tag, I know my old 06 manual tells the exact weight that should trip the unbalance mechanism. I think it was three pounds, but I'm not sure. A three pound weight does not trip it, but the resistance feels the same as any Tag I've ever grabbed and felt! BTW Greg, Buster weighs 8 lbs., so he can't be used as the weight! Shame on you!

I have 2 different manuals and one says 3 pounds and the other says 4. I agree with gansky1, I like them set a little tighter.

Personally I would set it at 4 pounds spin and have the out of balance trip at 5 pounds, like my 65 Maytag manual indicates.

Don't know anything about the Maytags but your cat is adorable Bobby! His personality reminds me of Bosco, the Tuxedo cat I grew up with. He could always tell if you had a bad day and was right there to make it better.

I never knew that the damper pads had to be lubed, what do you use? I think I only had one off balance issue years ago, and now the off balance switch and the open lid lift shutoff dont work, and I am glad for the later issue.

Our LA511 had a damper issue where the machine would walk across the floor. It was repaired no less than 10 years ago...and still running smooth ever since.

Great machines.
