We have the original Built In Range in our 1956 built home! Still works and a manual. We are trying to get parts before it decides not to work! Can you help me find out what year?
First of all, I neglected to say this earlier, but your oven, cooktop and hood are all beautiful, and in great condition! GE used to call that color coppertone.
Greg's (luxflairguy) placement of 1962 may be dead-on -- I'm not sure. However, I can tell you that the 1964 GE full-line catalog contains two illustrations that look very much like your appliances -- see the attached pictures.
If you can give us a model number, and -- especially -- a serial number, we can give you the exact year of manufacture. Thanks,
Model number is J C16Y1DC and serial number is DYC09333. The range belonged to my husband's grandmother and we bought the house when they passed away a few years ago. We take very good care of it!
Your wall oven was made in 1964. There is a GE web site that helps determine date of manufacture from serial number, BUT it often doesn't work for appliances made in the 1960s. During the 60s, GE used letters in the MODEL number to indicate the year of manufacture, and your model number of JC16Y1DC corresponds to 1964. Specifically, you have a JC16 wall oven, with manufacture year "Y", which corresponds to 1964 according to the following table from Ken (bajaespuma):
In case you're curious, I'll include the link for the GE web site that helps determine date of manufacture from serial number. As I said, however, the decoding scheme on that web site often doesn't work for appliances -- like yours -- made in the 1960s.
